“Solid choice in a great central location”

Stayed here for 6 nights and had a basic but neat, clean and comfortable room. The hotel is in a great location if you plan to explore on foot. Staff was well organized and helpful, and breakfast was good as well, with a lot of options. I had a room overlooking the street, which is a fairly busy pedestrian street, and I was warned that it might be noisy on the weekend, but the windows were surprisingly well soundproofed and I was not bothered one bit.

We spent one day and night in Ponta Delgado before traveling to another Azorean island and stayed at Hotel Alcides. It is a wonderful hotel - centrally located, clean and comfortable rooms, very helpful staff, and great breakfast that is included. We arrived from a red eye flight hours before our room was ready and the staff let us partake in the breakfast even though we had not checked in yet. After we walked around the city for a few hours, we returned and were ready to wait in the lounge for our room but it was ready early. We really enjoyed our stay and it was a great value.

Stayed at Alcides Hotel recently and loved its central location. The staff was super friendly! Stayed at Alcides Hotel recently and loved its central location. The staff was super friendly! Downside: no parking on-site, so you need a rental car, but there’s free parking about a ten-minute walk away. Rooms are tiny, but that’s expected for an older European spot. Basics are covered, but the bed was rock-hard—I was glad to have my own pillow. It’s labeled 2 stars, but I’d say it deserves 3. Giving it 4 stars because it’s a great deal for the price!

I will start with the good. I wanted to give this hotel at least a four star rating as the check-in process was excellent and the desk clerk was very friendly. However, we rented two rooms and one of the rooms had a broken air conditioner. When I requested that someone look at it the next morning, I was initially told it was working fine. I was unable to get the clerk to understand that the fan is not the same as the air conditioner. Later that afternoon when it still was not fixed I was told it was too late to switch rooms as housekeeping had left for the day. The saving grace was the night clerk finding us a fan which at least made the room bearable. I know many hotels do not have air-conditioning, but this was selected specifically because it did. Otherwise, the hotel is acceptable and as I indicated, in an excellent area/location.
