We stayed at Madeira Garden hotel for 7 nights having arrived late at night on 20th September. We were offered discounted buffet dinner at the restaurant which we took up as we didn't have any dinner on flight. An adult only hotel which is just apt for us to relax without any interruption. We had a room on 7th floor overlooking the swimning pool. The room is adequately spacious with a small fridge and kettle and supplies. Free bottle of water everyday is provided which is nice. Our room is cleaned everyday we were there. There is a wardobe with hangers but little storage space for folded clothes. The bathroom is clean and functional. Breakfast is good with plenty of choices. Our disappointment is that there is no proper bacon, eg Danish bacon, instead spam slices were used which was not to our taste. Other than that, everything at breakfast is good. The hotel was previously known as Savoy Gardens and it is now Tui Blue Madeira Gardens. Some taxi drivers remembered it as Savoy Gardens. There is an a la carte restaurant onsite which we did not try so we caould not comment. You can have snacks or light lunches by the pool bar area. There is a rooftop terrace with entertainment some nights and it doubles up as a jacucci area in one corner during the day. It has a nice view of the surrounding areas. There is a gym and daily activities planned, eg yoga, weights training, French boules, table tennis etc. The hotel is within walking distance to the Lido, circa 30 mins downhill. You can catch a taxi as the return is uphill. Plenty of restaurants and mini supermarkets around the Lido area. Funchal is 30 -35 mins walk downhill to Funchal or 10 mins in a taxi costing 10 euros. You can catch a bus, 2 euros each way. Bus timetable available from Reception. Reception service is wonderful and helpful. They can order you a taxi and even book a restaurant for you. Also, you can book a private taxi tour around Madeira directly with Reception if you prefer. We did have a good day tour as we were not keen on coach trip. Overall, this is a nice hotel with just about a hotel can offer for accommodation and comfort. We like staying here. “Simply the best. Madeira Gardens Hotel”

We cannot over rate this hotel. Excellent service, caring, helpful and efficient staff, great food with excellent choice each night, very clean room and hotel. We cannot over rate this hotel. Excellent service, caring, helpful and efficient staff, great food with excellent choice each night, very clean room and hotel. We have been to Madeira Gardens 3 years running on my wife's birthday in September and all being good plan to go back next year. We only usually go one to a country.The hotel is excellent in all ways one would expect. Funchal is easy to reach with a fantastic market on two floors and fish market. All the people in the hotel and outside were friendly and helpful. Thank you to all.

Lovely hotel, decor a little dated but very comfortable large bed and everything kept clean daily, drinks and snacks cost very reasonable and excellent breakfast with very quick service for coffees etc. As always with most of Madeira you need to be prepared for the hill walks to and from restaurant… more

Lovely hotel, decor a little dated but very comfortable large bed and everything kept clean daily, drinks and snacks cost very reasonable and excellent breakfast with very quick service for coffees etc. As always with most of Madeira you need to be prepared for the hill walks to and from restaurants, bars etc but everything is really close to the hotel. My only moan is the lack of non smoking outdoor areas, walking through reception outdoor area wasn’t nice with the smell of cigarette smoke and allowing guests to smoke on their balconies simply meant we couldn’t sit and enjoy our balcony due to the smell, most hotels nowadays do not allow smoking on balconies, but that’s a personal choice from me as a non smoker. Madeira and the people though - wonderful!

“Good pool, spa and staff but air conditioning not cold enough”

Pros - excellent staff - good outdoor and indoor pool/ spa - lots of activities on offer Cons - air conditioning didn’t go below 22 degrees so we had massive issues sleeping in the warm stuffy room. Although staff gave us a fan this just moved around the warm air. Staff informed us that 22 is the lowest that the rooms go to despite the AC thermostat lowest option being 16 degrees. - bedrooms clean but bathrooms could be a lot cleaner. Also had yellow water come out of the shower head on one day. Overall it could be a nice hotel and the staff are fantastic but the temperature of the rooms is a major issue affecting quality of the experience we had.
