Excellent stay from start to finish, very friendly and welcoming staff. We had side sea view room 1115 with great views over garden and saw sun setting over sea every evening. Although hotel pretty full always plenty of space in main restaurant. We also ate in couple of on site restaurants, need to book as soon as arrive, and at included restaurant at Pestana Miramar, ten minutes by taxi. Hired a car to explore for couple of days, lots of hills! Went on cable car in Funchal. We were lucky Xmas lights were turned on in Funchal before we left. Amazing to see! Two happy hours and entertainment in bar area every night. Recommended

We needed a relaxing holiday and chose the Pestana Grand Ocean booked through BA Holidays. From the minute we arrived until the moment we left we cannot fault the quality of the service. Excellent staff in all the key services (Laura and Maria in guest services, Ricardo in the restaurant, David (Bráulio) at the pool bar and many others), thank you all for making our stay so easy and relaxing. As for the facilities, some may be a little dated but the pool area is lovely by day and night, the sea views are spectacular and the location is a little quiet for nightlife lovers, but for a winter getaway, you cannot beat this. Thoroughly satisfied with our stay, would definitely recommend for winter sun and relaxation.

Hello fellow travellers, after a week of Holiday at the Pestana the time has come for its review. The Hotel lobby is well decorated and very clean, very spacious and the reception staff were very attentive to our needs. Once we were all checked in, we stayed at room 1217 on the 2nd floor with a side sea view room which I recommend paying a bit extra for this! The rooms are very spacious and well decorated, the bed was also very comfortable but as you might expect the double bed were 2 single beds put together which can be inconvenient at times, but we managed to deal with this! The room comes with a big TV although the smart function on the TV is disabled so no access to streaming platforms, but you can always bypass this by either connecting a HDMI cable to your laptop or mobile phone, but in all honesty, there is so much to do in Madeira that you probably wont even have the time to watch a movie! The bathroom is quite spacious as well with a standard size bathtub, but In all honesty we were not very impressed with the condition of the bathroom, they could do with a freshen up, but we also managed this as we were in Madeira for 1 week only. The safe in the room was quite tricky as the instruction were not very clear and we were having issues with it but once this was reported to reception, they sent the handyman to come have a look into it and we managed to figure it out in the end. As well we have requested an iron board and iron for the room but to our surprise this is only available for 1 hour at the time as others guests might want to use it, this came as a surprise to us seeing how many rooms the Hotel has but in the end we only needed this for a couple shirts so no big deal, but I highly suggest the Hotel to invest in more iron and iron boards! The rooms come with a big balcony and a nice furnished seating area so always a plus for those lazy afternoons relaxing in the balcony. The Hotel amenities include a Gym, Sauna, Turkish Bath as well as a Indoor and Outdoor Pool and Jacuzzi, the indoor pool area was very spacious and modern, as well as the treatment rooms very clean and tidy. Now as per the Outdoor Pool my suggestion would be to make it a bit more modern, and some repair works needed but what they lack in the outside Pool are they compensate in the inside Pool area so no big deal! The buffet Dinner/Breakfast was good although for me being from Madeira Born and Bread, the food did not do justice to our culture and it lacked a lot of variety the good thing is that you can swap Dinner for Lunch or you can Book one of their restaurants for dinner as this is part of the Half Board package. As well if you prefer to have dinner in downtown Funchal you can always swap it for Lunch as I mentioned above! A few things that have let me down massively was the Bathroom Towels they are old and could do with some replacements, as well as the Housekeeping. Let’s put it this was they should check the rooms more thoroughly as they are lacking a lot of attention in this department and the rooms do not strike as clean after Housekeeping been to the rooms! As well the water in the Buffet Restaurant must be paid as per one of the restaurant staff who advised us the tap filled bottles of water must be paid! Which we though it was funny that we had to pay 5 Euros for tap water, overall you are better off ordering a Beverage for that price as we did most night otherwise do not forget TAP WATER MUST BE PAID! In my most honest opinion there are a lot of good things in this Hotel but a lot of negatives as well, I would explore other options next time visiting Madeira, but if you can bypass the negative, I am sure you will have a great time whilst staying at the Hotel! The Hotel is also situated in a great area just by Lido’s Promenade and across Forum Madeira Shopping center. I would like to say thank you to the Atrium Restaurant staff and reception they were always very kind and attentive they compensate for the negative points mentioned in my review.
