This was our first time to Madeira nd this Hotel and it did not disappoint. Our room and the hotel was spotless. There were plenty of areas to sit around the hotel while having a drink or two. The cocktails were excellent along with the choices of drinks throughout our stay. Food was excellent and the Christmas Eve lunch was fantastic. We found the hotel to be in a great position with about a 45 min walk into Funchal. Buses are easy to catch as well and a taxi was about 7 euros from Funchal back to the hotel. The Christmas lights and markets are absolutely fabulous and the best we have ever seen. We would highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed at the ENOTEL LIDO for Christmas and New Year. The position of the hotel near the LIDO is excellent. The area has loads of restaurants and is on a bus route down the centre of Funchal. The hotel is nicely laid out, with good facilities. The Pool faces the sun all day, and is sheltered on three sides from the wind. It has a good selection of sunbeds in good state of repair. The hotel staff are all cheerful and helpful and everything is always clean. The main buffet restaurant was the only significant downside for us. They struggled to keep food warm, so well cooked food was left to go cold. Hotel is lovely and if they can sort the restaurant food temperature out, it would be hard to beat.

Away as a family for Xmas and New year and meet up with friends for New year. Fourth time stay so can see the changes. Go straight to sad part: We have always gone with jet2 for the last three Christmas times. But for some reason for 2025 Christmas you can’t book with jet2, TUI, easy jet holidays for the Christmas and new year at this hotel. You try to book on website or booking.com and the prices are shocking. The room is the now the same price as what we paid in total for this most recent 12 night holiday with jet2. The prices are out of hand and can’t book which is sad as want to come back and sure our friends would. The amazing: It has to be Marina. She made our holiday for us and our friends perfect. Made sure we had same room as always, amazing room for our friends, done magic new year eve for table and both gala events amazing. She gos above and beyond and who can go and moan at her is so wrong. From the Jones’s thank you. All the staff made Xmas and new year very special. Roberto, Leandaro and Dino In the piano bar amazing as always for their humour and drinks. Cleaners amazing through out hotel. Restaurant managers had a presence and humour that made our meal times amazing. Shout out for the Kai team restaurant including the head waiter with glasses (never sore name tag). Amazing choice of drinks every place including in restaurants. The good: We found our room, clean presented well. Hotel Close to Funchal 25 min walk or bus outside. Good range of food each evening and intolerance needs covered well. Goodness of drinking water with bottles in room to fill up around hotel (there is more than two). Plenty of seating areas and nice warm area with nice atmosphere by the fish ponds and tank. Main pool chilly / cold but clean and great for brisk swim over December. Not heated though. Nice to be able to enter and exit straight onto bottom promenade walk. The improvements needed: The bedroom and corridors showing age now and bathrooms need a re fit out big time. Labelled as a five star these bathrooms are not. No pegs to hang things like coats up and limited bed storage either side. Beds hard and wobble a lot even if some one sits on other side. All handles on doors squeak as so old. Scuffs to walls every where and flooring looking tired. Lifts broken parts dirty in areas and one kept saying over weight so had to lean against panel. Chairs in piano bar old and showing their time and after while hurt to sit on. Piano bar music used to have different people but not now and never play long enough. At times felt dead up there. The revolving doors on the entrance creak crank and need good repair or remove them as hard to go in with cases (there are other doors can use). Gym never changed with broken machines now, some Non hotel resident guys kept coming in to use the gym and were very rude. Limited equipment and very dull. Used to use but not now as even the bench has a broken seat. Restaurant: many issues here with the place, the biggest one is cold food, hot plates but the warmers don’t keep food warm enough and go cold even the meats go cold. (note food is amazing). Also have strong air con blowing in serving there so it blows on food as well. A lot of the male chefs look moody and just grump and not Smile. The seating is getting to be an issue with a lot of chairs having broken seat cushions. We and others were moving chairs around and these original chairs from old just painted so showing wear and tear. Also feels like a canteen so better to sit by windows. Gets noisy when busy. They have hired a lot of non Madeiran staff but the original staff work so hard and these new ones do but such a shame not all Madeira staff. Again they look grumpy. Will say your glass never goes empty of wine. The serving area does get cramped And when busy bit of a scram. Like they moved pasta area to end now as this use to cause problems. They don’t have food bags out now for making picnics have to ask for them as they saving waste. Kai restaurant can’t fault amazing like said, but the Italian needs to slow down!!!!! They speed you through the service and you are not given a chance to enjoy each stunning plate. We had to hold our forks to stop plates being taken. Madeira restaurant not changed menu in four years so didn’t bother this time. The spa does have issues now and showing its age and lack of repair. Also what with removing the lock on door to spa so any one can go in including Children. When use to be for over 16! Also now closed Sundays, was 7 days a week and what you pay for in all inclusive. A lot of the pools in spa and indoor pool has lots of tiles missing dirty and steam room stunk and look gross on floor and neither sauna was working. Due to so many people going in and out (use to be limited to numbers and over 16). The main outdoor pool really needs care now as tiles missing through out the white grills look dirty and need changing and there for 12 nights and pool never cleaned with pool hoover so a lot of grit etc on bottom of it. We swam every day so know what it was like. Some of the sun beds now broken and not changed and the whole pool area not always tidy each evening so food plates glasses left during night and looked a mess. We would come back if able to book, and prices represented to the value and of what is their now, but with so much improvement in a lot of areas and prices gone up by close to 25% and still have to buy flights we just can’t stay no more. :( Again Marina you are a massive credit to the hotel.
