Just returned from a lovely holiday at this immaculately clean, beautifully presented hotel. It was our first experience of an all inclusive and we weren’t disappointed. The food was delicious and plentiful with lots of choice. I’d agree with the previous comments in that my drinks were replenished more on some days than others. My husband loved being able to pull his own ice cold lager whenever he wanted though. We booked The Kulinarium restaurant rather than the buffet for one evening. The food was well presented but we really preferred the buffet. The hotel is suited to couples rather than families as there isn’t anything for children or teenagers to do apart from the pool especially if the weather is bad. If you’re someone who likes to wander round the shops etc in the locality, yes, there’s a few but this isn’t the hotel for you. The same goes for the entertainment, it’s ok but if that’s what's important for you choose a different hotel. The staff are excellent and the free bus into Funchal is a great service. It’s a full size coach but you do need to book in advance at reception. Plenty of sun beds available at any time of day and no problem finding a table in the restaurant. The towels in the room are definitely a bit on the small side so these could be improved upon. We loved our stay at the Riu Madeira and would definitely consider returning in the future. It was perfect for us. There is some building work going on adjacent to one side of the hotel but nobody could tell us exactly what this was going to be.

We went as a family of 3 adults and 1 child. On arrival we were concerned with the weather but you can't change the weather can you. Thankfully it changed itself after the first day. The food : if you are adventurous it would be fab I and my daughter are a little fussy so we struggled on some days but others we were fine. Pool bar was great for kids but if you wanted something more substantial the resturant was great. The lovely lady in the pool bar I forget her name was lovely she remembered our drinks and was happy. Rooms are lovely in the main we had some visitors by way of tiny ants that invaded a draw and we were finding them all week. We didn't complain as they were small and we didn't have food in the room so wasn't an issue. Pool towels - these are fantastic but they get so heavy when wet and take a while to dry. Towels in the room however were very small it doesnt make you feel good about yourself. I am not massive but these struggled to meet in the middle, the dressing gown come in handy lots of people walked around in them round the pool which I found odd but each to there own. The entertainment was uninspiring but passed an Hour or so. Kids entertainment in the evening was nothing it didn't exist and during the day we seen 3 activities on 3 consecutive days, balloon modles- these dogs and flowers were given to the kids. Bingo one day too which was just one child playing we didn't know it was on till it was almost over and another day 2 children played UNO. The staff are Fantastic. The building is beautiful. The surrounding area was pretty. We asked for 3 things, adjoining rooms - these were not given we were 3 doors down not an issue. Pool view - instead we got a carpark and a building site. Low level we got the floor we asked for which was great. We had emailed in advance as we went for my mums birthday they said they would give a bottle of bubbly this didn't come. The local supermarket is nice and had a good selection of anything you might need and further up the road was another spar shop which was bigger and had more souvenir type things. The most challenging part of this holiday for me was the clients this is not the hotels problem. I do feel this hotel is more for adults only and maybe it should be advertised as such. That being said our holiday was great.
