“Great spot for golfers”

Lovely hotel 10 mins walk from the centre of town and right beside the beach. Great staff, nice bar and lovely pool area. Breakfast was good. Egg and omelette station was very slow. Two eggs cooked at a time. I’d recommended the hotel and we’ll be back to stay again.

Very nice hotel with water views. Room was spacious and comfortable but a little weathered. The bathroom was spacious; however, the shower was located in a very deep bathtub with no wall handrails. Even though I am an active, agile senior, I did not feel safe entering and exiting the shower. The pool area looked lovely; however, we did not have an opportunity to utilize the facility. The hotel is an easy walk to town where there are many shops and restaurants. Breakfast was excellent as they are in all the Vile Gales that we have stayed. I would consider staying here again; however, I would inquire about the availability of walk-in showers.

This year was our third visit to Vila Gale. What we like is the spacious outside area with a good size pool and a lovely pool eatery with well presented snacks. The staff are efficient and friendly. It is a short walk to the newly constructed Marina with bars and Restaurants and a bit further is the centre of Cascais. What we don’t like. There aren’t enough different choices at Breakfast. Breakfast Buffett is a bit of a bun fight with people walking in opposite direction to each other and constantly bumping into you. The hotel was dominated by large groups of golfers who individually were very nice but collectively were extremely noisy and used bad language despite women and children being in hearing shot. They dominated the bar area early evening so you couldn’t hear yourself talk. The room was spacious but very dated now. The beds had an incontinence cover under the sheet which crackled. All in all I won’t be returning to the Vila Gale. Star rating wise I would rate it a large hotel with 3 stars.

“Nice enough but think low 4*”

This hotel is advertised as 4* but it is a low 4* or even 3.5*. The price is reasonable and the bedrooms a very good size. The staff are lovely, especially Sofia and Cristina on reception. This hotel is advertised as 4* but it is a low 4* or even 3.5*. The price is reasonable and the bedrooms a very good size. The staff are lovely, especially Sofia and Cristina on reception. It's located at one end of the resort a 5 minute walk from the harbour and 15 minutes from the town centre/restaurants. However these are the issues. The room safe has to be rented at €2.50/day (I haven't come across that for almost 20 years), no kettle/tea/coffee in the rooms unless you ask at reception, sliding doors on wardrobes which prevent access to the middle shelves (who designed that?), small, thin bath towels (not bath sheets) which are barely sufficient to dry oneself and therefore need to be changed every day, wafer thin toilet paper requiring one to use 3 or 4 times the number of sheets than usual, side plates (not dinner plates) at breakfast meaning guests either pile up the cooked breakfast as if they are at a Toby carvery or go up multiple times to re-fill their plates, no drinks service by the pool, (admittedly the pool bar is a short walk down some steps at one end of the pool but the staff weren't exactly busy!). All said, an adequate hotel but nothing special.
