Stayed only one night when visiting Cascais. The place itself is really special and well located in the old historic citadel next to the marina and city centre. Breakfast was generally good but service could be improved, e. g. serving coffee took a bit too long. Rooms are ok but there was one kind of chair which was really used and should be replaced. Overall rating from us would be 3.5 considering that they are obviously 5* standard.

“Wonderful trip to Cascais”

Front desk was very nice and always gave us a bottle of water when we asked as we headed out. Maid service was not very forthcoming on giving us extra towels. Flat out refused. Breakfast buffet was good - just everything same day. Bed was very comfortable.

The hotel is located in a fort with a courtyard and ramparts. It is totally different experience to a tower block hotel with windows on the outside. Instead it has a cosy feel, like a village. The hotel is stacked with art and there are high art shops around the Courtyard. The hotel itself is set within the walls and is great. The staff are ready to help you in every way possible. Our room was brilliant. The food at breakfast was superb. There is a bar/restaurant outside in the courtyard and a bar that serves food, below reception. The food from both was very good although some might find the choice to be a bit limited The indoor pool was fine. The outside pool is set in a very nice garden with sunbeds high up on the ramparts, although it takes a bit of finding. My wife is a wheelchair user. it was not a problem in the rooms of the hotel but outside the courtyard is cobbled and outside the fort all pavements are cobbled with high kerbs even at crossing points. We tended to use taxis to get around even for relatively short distances. It is a real shame. Honestly - Cascais is not the place for people with reduced mobility We really enjoyed our stay in the hotel but I would like the Europeans to give the reduced- mobility visitors equal opportunities when visiting places like Cascais.

The hotel is in a good position near the town, but certainly not the 5 minutes away claimed on the hotel’s website for anyone with walking difficulties. I can walk, albeit slowly, but our room was the furthest away from the front desk that it could possibly be, and it took me 20 minutes to the town. We were shown a short cut, but as it was down steep uneven steps with no handrail that didn’t help. We saw on the website that there were loungers in the gardens and indeed there were, if you didn’t mind a long walk including steps with again no handrail, but without my husband’s help I couldn’t have managed. The only toilets there were down steep steps. The room itself was described on the British Airways website as a superior double with balcony. I rang the hotel beforehand for more information and was told we had a pool view from the balcony. We were actually ground level with a small patio looking at a blank wall. The chairs in the bedroom and the patio were very uncomfortable, with no arms. There was no shade of any kind and it was too hot to sit there in the morning. The bathroom was just about OK and they did provide me with a bath mat and a stool. On the plus side the staff were lovely and very helpful and the breakfast was delicious and plentiful. We liked the fact that it was served until 11am. We will not be returning.
