This BNB was beautiful, and the owner was super friendly! Check in usually ends at 8, but when I called saying we wouldn’t arrive until 1:15 am, he said he would wait for us to arrive. Great wifi, comfortable bed, and really nice outdoor (saltwater) pool area. Breakfast is also amazing and can be modified to fit dietary needs. If I’m ever back in Tavira I will be staying here again.

We stayed here for 8 days, and enjoyed everyone of them. Very quirky and not your run of the mill hotel. Rooms are clean and adequate. We had breakfast on the verandah every morning and was delicious. The pool was a delight We would go out exploring every day for hours and to come back for a nice relaxing swim was bliss. The temperature was in the 30s when we were there so the pool was a dream. There is a train that passes by, but don't let it put you off booking this hotel, it's gone in a few seconds. After the first day you don't even hear it. The owner, Sebastiao really wants his guests to have a great stay and cares that everything is ok. This is something that you don't get with a big chain hotel. This hotel is a very easy 10 minute flat walk to town. We were so pleased we chose this hotel.

The inn is handily situated not far from the town centre. It is quirky, thanks to the owner, Sebastian, who is (unintentionally I'm sure) very particular about the do's and don't of staying at his house, where he lives on site. Strict guidelines apply on the pool deck, and likewise for the room (no glass please, fold lounger mats a particular way please, rinse off salt water from the pool with the hose like this please, no hand marks on the glass door leading to the pool deck please). Nothing too stringent, but nevertheless, rules are rules. I found him to be likeable enough, but he seemed to be around all the time, desperate to engage in conversation. He is helpful too but a little too invasive for my liking (personal taste). The room is basic. it's clean with a decent sized bathroom/shower room, and a small but pleasant balcony. He doesn't supply tea or coffee making facilities because they mark his table. Really? An don't leave the aircon unit on, please. After the first night, we asked for additional pillows (only 2 thinnish ones supplied per double bed). What? More pillows? Sorry, I only have enough for one for each person per room! I can give you cusions. This is preposterous frankly. How much is a pillow to buy? Oh, and we are still waiting for the cusions. They never arrived. Important point: if you have heavy luggage, you have to carry it up to the room yourself. Be prepared. He has a scar mark on the back of his neck that apparently means he cannot/will not help with luggage, and there are a lot of stairs too. So be warned. I'm a fairly fit guy, and I struggled. I'm now seeing a pattern here. As with the tea/coffe excuse, and the pillow excuse, it's just lazy management, I think, and not acceptable to be honest. The univeral remote control for the very good air con unit malfunctioned through the night with the air con on(it was dark and i may have pressed the wrong button). Oh no! he exclaimed. Yes, I said. The clock is showing on the remote, that may have something to do with it. Oh no! he exclaimed in even more horror. Not the clock! Reluctantly, and making sure I knew he thought it was all my fault, he said he would try to fix it. When we came back, he told me he had to order a new remote, €15, but it would take 2 days to arrive (more lazy management I suspect). We were leaving in 2 days. Back in the room however, he had somehow managed to switch the unit off. A warm room all night is not pleasant or really acceptable. Anyway, I googled the remote make, and the aircon unit make, and quickly found a page giving a variety of codes to try. Scrolling through the codes on the remote, and suddenly the unit pings back into life. The point here is that if I could do it, so should he have been able to. It's his job as the owner/manager of the accommodation. It's what we pay him for. The bottom line in all of this is that for a few nights, it's handy for the town, and subject to the above caveats, not unbearable. Just travel light, maybe bring an extra pillow if you need it, and prepare for the mini lectures and excuses not to help you out if it involves anything other than giving directions to the town or beach.
