Just had a week here with BA holidays and the whole week was fabulous. Our room was on the 3rd floor with a huge bed and kitchen. The bed was extremely comfortable and the shower hot. The breakfast buffet had a good choice of food and we could vary what we ate each morning. We ate twice in the hotel's restaurant and made use of the free wine offer. I deliberately chose this hotel for it's location and as we had a hire care were able to visit a lot of the Algarve during the week. We used the indoor pool, and had brought our own swimming caps to use. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. We took our own kettle, supplies of coffee and tea and even a few dishwasher tablets for the dishwasher. We also packed a teatowel and cloth. The hotel doesn't have a bar to sit in, but we were Ok with that. Around the corner is a good shop and along from that a huge Chinese shop which sells everything (but not food). While we were staying there there was a rhythm gymnastics competition in the area as a lot of the competitors checked in over thr weekend, we went to watch them and this was a very memorable and special part of our holiday.

This is the Agua Hotels Riverside in Pateira, Portimao. At first impressions this modern riverside hotel, with its views across the river to Portimao looks nice. The facilities are all there, restaurant, outdoor pools, indoor spa with pool. The rooms are large with floor to ceiling windows to let in lots of natural light. That’s fine until the sun goes down, then the dismal dull illumination barely makes a difference, and the grey walls and long grey corridors with their grey photos start to close in on you, and you begin to to feel like you are in a prison rather than a hotel The bar, well it doesn’t exist. There’s a serving counter in the restaurant with a few bottles and a beer pump, but nowhere to sit inside other than at a dining table. No cosy welcome here. My main concern was that the general build quality was very poor. Wall panels were poorly fixed, and the hair dryer in the bathroom was wired into the back of an electric socket leaving the wiring exposed.
