We (my wife, I and our 18 month old son) had a wonderful 10 day stay at Pestana Viking in early September. The Positive: 1) Phenomenal staff and customer service. A huge thank you and shout out of appreciation to Mariana, Stephanie and Loisa from reception. You made us feel welcome and delivered a pleasant stay from start to finish, and from the breakfast to the dinner also a huge thank you to Paulo Head of F&B leading and overseeing a full hotel of guests and ensuring they are each catered to and leave full and satisfied is not an easy task but every day you and your team ensure just that. Also a big thank you to Amalo and Ismall who made our baby son smile every time they saw him and did not hesitate to be of help and going above and beyond. A big positive for this hotel is the great staff that work here to all mentioned above and the wider team on the ground thank you! 2) the location & view. Waking up with a sea and cliff view each morning, sunloungers are not right by the pool (a big positive), for rather they are situated with 180 degree view of the ocean. One cannot think of a nicer location. 3) Breakfast: Breakfast buffet is large and plentiful. Fresh Omelette made for you by the chiefs in the open kitchen as well as fresh pancakes or waffles every morning and a wide variety of continental and english breakfast in the buffet. The Neutral: 1) The hotel has a fantastic location but the hotel bricks and mortar is dated. This however also has its charm, the hotel is full of pink and green marble. The dining area as well as other facilities are not the newest. All is meticulously clean and of good standard, but will need investing in over the coming years by management. The Negative: 1) Grass not watered. The grass around the swimming pool was dead and at many places non existent and it has become earth and dust. I appreciate there is a water shortage. However for our 15 month old son who crawls but not yet walk this meant he could not enjoy his freedom as much as he would with grass, as he would become completely dirty from the dust. 2) cigarette butts: It would be great if hotel gusts could be informed to throw away their cigarette butts in the bins available rather than lying all over the grass. Also it would be great if the cleaning staff would pick these up, where hotel gusts fail to do so themselves. 3) the pools were very cold. Both the outside pool which is sea water as well as the indoor pool which is fresh water with chlorine. A lot of guests complained about this and by the last two days of our stay they had increased the temperature of the outdoor pool considerably. I am not sure if the temperature was kept low for economical cost reasons, but the increased temperate should be the standard. 4) orange and other fruit juices at breakfast were bland concentrate mixed with water. The buffet has an excellent stock of fresh and already peeled wide selection of orange, grapefruit, melon, watermelon, kiwi. The juices however were bland concentrate. It would definitely be worth investing in a fresh orange juice maker. Also the system for the juices is auto refill if the jug reaches a certain level, but every day the orange juice tasted different, sometimes with a mix of pineapple other times very chemically and too strong and other times very weak. Overall we loved our stay and will definitely be back. The staff were amazing throughout our holiday. Over the coming years investment is needed as per items listed above.

Suite was superb as was everything. Breakfast the best buffet style anywhere and evening meals at 30 euros including glass of wine was great value and quality. Suite was superb as was everything. Breakfast the best buffet style anywhere and evening meals at 30 euros including glass of wine was great value and quality. Staff were friendly and always helpful so we can forgive a minor water leak after a thunderstorm and TV that is not uk friendly. Had a lovely holiday and look forward to a return visit

We just back from lovely half term break , hotel was very nice , staff were great they were very helpful , couldn’t fault any of then for there service all very helpful and polite , Paulo always gave a great welcome when going for breakfast . Hotel is very clean and cleaned and towels everyday , also towels for pool everyday . Hotel has indoor pool too , came in handy as last day weather wasn’t great so we chilled out inside . We went B&B , we went to the bars and restaurant round about , although not a great lot and walking distance too . Enjoyed the break but hotel is abit out way for my liking we used bolt taxis which is great as you.get discount rides , as buses not very frequent either
