We just returned from a one week stay at the Vidanta Maya Palace in Cancun. We were an extended family of 13 in 4 different rooms. We had a two bedroom/two bathroom suite, with living room and kitchenette, in building 13 which was comfortable for our nuclear family of 5 adults. One bedroom had a king bed; the other bedroom had two double beds; and the L shaped sofa was big enough for the 5th adult to sleep on. The wifi was strong and worked well-no issues with wifi as some others have said. Room service came by twice a day. The kitchenette has a small fridge, a two burner electric stove, a coffee maker, toaster, blender, pots/pans, plates, and cutlery.: everything you need to make breakfast, lunch and a simpl-ish dinner. The property is very green and lush and generally very well-maintained. The staff are very friendly and always eager and happy to help-whether you encounter them on the trains, walking to/from your rooms, at the lobby, at the supermarket, or at the restaurant. The food was fine, though can be pricey at times. We bought a lot of food at their supermarket (called “La Boutique”) so we were able to have a few meals at the room: some breakfasts, lunches and dinner. Most of the other times, we either ate poolside or at Salum, which was just fine. The restaurant at Salum offers a variety of different foods from various restaurants so we were able to choose from burgers, hot dogs, chicken, sushi, cooked fish, gyoza, ribs, beans, etc. at any one time. The Maya Palace has a very large pool area-a combination of various pools and it was never crowded. The beach is just a few steps from the pool. We were always able to find lounge chairs and umbrellas by the pool-that was not a problem. We stayed during Hurricane Beryl and the property had everything under control. Each day during the week leading up to the hurricane, they left us a sheet of paper explaining the hurricane’s path and the steps they were taking to keep us safe. Though there were some downed trees on the property after the hurricane, the staff worked very hard to clean everything up quickly and the pool and stores were opened quickly. We went on two excursions which we booked directly at the property: 1/2 day to Tulum and full day to Chichén Itzá, a cenote, and Valladolid. The best was the full day to Chichen Itza which I highly recommend. The tours picked us up directly at the hotel. As others have said, Maya Palace, Vidanta, is a very big property and you have to walk, or take a train, pretty much everywhere. If you’d like to be close to the pool or restaurant area, make sure you pick a building that is close to these areas. The trains run pretty frequently and we never had to wait more than 7-9 minutes to board one. That said, we preferred to walk as often as we could-the paths were usually well signed. If you or anyone in your group has mobility issues or is elderly, this may not be the property for them. It is also not easy to get off the property to go into town-you have to get to the Central Lobby, and then take a shuttle into town. Overall, we had a very nice stay.
