We saw the best of this resort under the most difficult circumstances: Hurricane Beryl. As was true throughout our stay, the staff was gracious, professional, friendly, helpful, and efficient. They were prepared for every eventuality: backup generators, water, and food. They worked quickly and calmly to remove all objects that could possibly be blown away or torn away by the wind. They gave us clear instructions and kept us all safe. I was very impressed. When we were not in the middle of a hurricane, we were having the time of our lives in the multiple swimming pools and on the beach. The kids (5,8,9) were in and out of the water all day. They went from pool to pool, depending on their mood. There was a smaller area for adult lap swimming, but it’s very much a kid-oriented experience. When the adults needed some non-kid time, we signed them into the Kidsdom. They played games, watched movies, and had other supervised activities. The kids had enough fun so that they asked to go back when they wanted a break from swimming. The resort is immaculate. I don’t think I saw people cleaning outdoors, but there was never any visible litter in the pool areas or on the walkways. The rooms were always kept clean by the housekeeping staff. There was only one disappointing element to our stay, and that was the food. It was never actually bad, but it was also never actually good. We ate in the buffet restaurants and in the sit-down restaurants, and our experience was always the same: optimism followed by disappointment. If food is important to you, this is not your resort. I was not eager to go to Mexico in the summer. I was afraid of the heat and I worried about the water. It was hot, but jumping into the pool cured that in a minute. The water and ice in the resort were fine to drink. I highly recommend the Paradisus Riviera Maya for families who are looking for an affordable all-inclusive resort vacation.
