I was at the "Bistro Mercurio," their poolside bar and restaurant for a full afternoon. My friend and I ate and had drinks, and then a swim. Even though not guests of the hotel, the front desk gave us towels with no cover charge. The food was terrific and reasonably priced. The listed special, chicken pasta with a glass of wine, was posted at $210 Mxn, a real bargain (the fuller menu cost a little more but was not outrageously priced). Service was friendly. For still being the tail end of the busy season, the area was very peaceful. It was a delightful escape from the tourist crowds, only a block from the pier, a real hidden gem..

My 10-day stay at Hotel Mercurio in late February 2024 was simply great. This small modest building may seem underwhelming from the street but it is a great choice for solo gay travelers who want clean lodging, fair prices, great food, and a social atmosphere that makes it easy to meet others over breakfasts and happy hours. Specifically, the memory foam mattress on my bed was super comfortable for sleeping, the shower had plenty of hot water whenever I needed it, ac worked well (after I figured out the somewhat confusing controls), breakfasts were delicious and varied, and every single staff member went the extra mile for me whenever I needed anything. Paul certainly knows how to hire and retain great staff; they don't just focus on operating a hotel - they want your entire vacation outside the hotel to go well too. David at breakfast gave me great shopping tips, Monica at the front desk had good insights on how I should use my time, Carmen kept my room super clean and her daughter did my laundry, and Joselo made phone calls to set up a medical appointment for me. I had great conversations with several other guests. The whole experience feels like visiting a large family home where everyone gets along and wants you to have an excellent stay. I saw lots of signs that management is again investing in the hotel. The refreshed rooms are beautiful. The menus have improved a lot. Several new employees are great additions to the already great staff. Keep it all up, I'm definitely going back.
