I got married in Puerto Vallarta and due to some circumstances did not have a place lined up after the wedding weekend to stay. Come in Hotel Amaca, they had availability and we took a room. The hotel itself is charming and pretty walkable distance to the excitement of PV. We found a coffee/breakfast shop right down the street that was also amazing! The room we had was small but clean with hanging hammock and minimalistic artistic decor. The small pool on the rooftop was cute and had a good view! But the real beauty of this place is the people at the hotel. My husband and I were checking out and were planning to fly out of PV for a short weekend trip in Mexico but had all of our wedding luggage and big neon sign we used at our wedding. We were struggling to find a place to store our luggage and the manager heard our dilemma and offered his office free of charge to store our extra luggage for 5 days. He did not have to do that but he went out of our way to help us. I really couldn’t believe it and we returned we didn’t get to see him to thank him but I wanted to let you know the kind of people that run this hotel are amazing! It really felt like a friend or family member was just looking out for us. For this reason alone this place is 5 stars

They don’t have breakfast, but they have a very good coffee with bananas in the morning. The rooftop was just okay. There is a nice deck and a small pool but unfortunately the pool doesn’t get direct sun so it’s very cold water. There is a very nice rooftop bar and Jorge has the BEST cocktail recipes in Puerto Vallarta. But I wish the drinks were STRONGER. I could not taste the tequila. When I asked for a double he wanted 250 pesos, which is too expensive for Puerto Vallarta. But I would stay here again!

This was my third stay at Hotel Amaca. I'm not giving it as many stars this time for several reasons. It seems that they have had a few changes in staff and one gentlemen, in particular, was anything but friendly. Most of the staff is very helpful and friendly but this man seemed to be a bit put off in assisting requests or even giving me a simple greeting in the morning. He could take a few lessons from the other young man who has been there several years who is sweet, charming, very friendly and helpful. I wish I could remember his name. The room I had this time was the least nicest room I've had during my stays there. There was no hammock in the room as I've had in the others (it IS Hotel Hammock after all). This room was the most sparse as well - zero decor, nothing at all in the way of art on the walls. The small balcony looked right onto the building across the street. I realize that's not the fault of the hotel, I just don't recommend the location of room #203. Even a mountain forest view is nicer than looking onto a wall. So we didn't use the balcony much unfortunately. This particular room really needs a little TLC. However, on the plus side - the room was kept super clean by the housekeeping staff. The bed was reasonably comfortable and the AC, as always, was great. I was pleased to see the morning coffee is back in the lobby - and it's delicious. The small cafe is now also open. The food is basic but fine for a snack by the pool. Speaking of the pool, they are doing some work on the pool deck it didn't feel quite as relaxing as last time and I'm not sure I like what they are doing (personal taste). I know this is a family owned hotel and they are doing their best. As I've mentioned in the past, and others as well, this is not a hotel for those who are stairs averse. There are steps, steps and more steps (no elevator). I don't mind it because I get my workout in without going to the gym during vacation and it works off the calories from the margaritas :) My main suggestion to the management would be to go into each of the rooms and just do a bit of refresh - paint, some art, maybe a colorful bed scarf to add a pop of color. A decent charir in the room instead of a plastic outdoor chair would be nice. Overall, staying here on a discounted rate - it serves the purpose. I would not pay the full rack rate for this hotel so book directly through their website - you can find a much better rate than using a 3rd party booking engine. Will I stay there again? Yes I will but I will much more particular and I would work with the hotel to make sure what room I'm getting and the details about that room.
