The Almar is a wonderful ocean front LGBT resort that earns a solid 4 stars. The rooms in the tower are definitely nicer than the newer Mantamar Beach Club rooms. However, the Beach Club’s swimming pool, bar, restaurant and vibe are great. The showers in the rooms needed updating. The hotel staff is professional, efficient and friendly. I can’t say this enough: housekeeping at Almar merits a 5 star rating! The food at the rooftop Skybar / restaurant is unremarkable but one goes for the view. There are many far better dining options in La Zona Romantica. The only disappointing aspect of Almar is its foolishness attempt to sell 10 year prepaid beach club memberships. Back of napkin financial analysis indicates a foolish purchase. The sales team were highly unprofessional especially with their goal to close a 5 digit purchase within the same day. My advice is that one should not give the Mantamar Beach Club sales team anything other than a polite “no thank you.” Although the pool parties at Casa Cupula are far more fun on the weekends, Almar is a far better price and location. I enthusiastically recommend the Almar Tower to other LGBT travelers. Be sure to book 4-6 months in advance for BeefDip and Pride. 🌈

We have now stayed at this resort multiple times. It is a lovely facility and the addition of the Eden pool made our stay. Check-in was fairly easy this time and we were able to avoid the aggressive time share pitch by being firm in our lack of interest and that we had sat through it before. All four groups who checked in at the same time as us did not get the type of room they reserved (us included). This is pretty standard practice at this hotel. We were a couple celebrating our anniversary - we got two queen beds. Another couple had to move rooms twice in the first few days to get the type of room they had reserved. Our room was lovely and I did enjoy the views. It was in need of maintenance, however. Clogged sinks, burnt out light bulbs, broken cabinet doors etc... The drink prices around the pool have become astronomical. 330 pesos plus a service fee (not tip) for cocktails equates to around $23 per drink. Many guests were in complete shock when they went to settle their bar bill. A beer is now $10 (for a Tecate!). We used the cheap coffee pack next to the Mr. Coffee in our room and they charged $100 pesos (that is $6.25 US). When I questioned the charge the front desk person was an arrogant jerk - "This is not an-all inclusive resort. Of course there is a charge for anything you used". Ummm even a Hampton Inn gives you free coffee packets each day. But thanks for the education. Overall we had a good stay, but everyone complained about the exact same issues - the same ones which are rampant throughout Trip Advisor. They need to drop the attitude and dedicate themselves to customer service. Stop nickel and diming everyone and honor the type of room booked. They also need to pay more attention to maintenance issues. A lot of things were out of order on the property.

The experience was amazing and everyone was good, the people at the bars the massage therapist, were amazing!!! And everyone else was nothing but amazing! But unfortunately our stay was very affected negatively by one of the people selling the times share, (Ignacio) he was extremely rude, to the point I had to leave the room and even thought about leaving the hotel, as he was so rude and wanted us to settle in whatever he offered, so I was just shocked with what he he said front of us, implying we just didn’t have money, his words were ( you knew you were coming to a “luxury hotel” and people here spend money ) after we just wanted to think about it and enjoy our anniversary and then see what we do, he pretty much walked away from us and pretty much snob us out, I left and pretty much was ready to pack my bags and leave to the point I didn’t take the massage they offered at the presentation, but luckily I bump into one of the people that worked there and he actually made a point and pretty much ask me to stay and enjoy and let the rest of the people make an experience out of it, it’s sad to see that the roll he plays at the hotel it’s so important but at the same time so degrading toward the people that bring business to the hotel, is this would have never happened the experience would have been a five star.
