We had a room with a sea view. Clean, 3rd floor big room. Nice breakfast , sicilian style, lots of cakes but also scrambled eggs etc. Nice pool area. Peaceful hotel near local park. Mainly adults. Finnish sauna, small gym area outdoors. Bus stop 10 min walk from hotel , cost only 7 euros from Cata… more

We were a little anxious when booking this hotel based on some of the reviews but we were instantly relieved as soon as arrived! It exceeded our expectations by the beautiful pool area and reception alone. The staff are pleasant and polite, (perhaps not as openly friendly as other hotels) but this didn’t faze us. Yes the hotel is a bit rough rough around the edges, but it’s also truly unlike anywhere we’ve stayed before and is perfectly authentic to its surroundings. Breakfast was lovely, every morning there were hot and cold choices, fresh scrambled eggs, prosciutto, yoghurts, cakes, even smoked salmon. It’s the same food every day but was healthy and delicious. Top tip: eat your breakfast inside due to nuisance pidgeons and wasps. The staff do their best to shoo the birds away but often they got the better of guests swopping food off plates, so don’t leave the table unattended or even slightly take your eye off your plate - this was an unfortunate part of the breakfast experience most mornings so we only did this once and then preferred to eat inside in peace. We chose the deluxe room and was delighted with the size of the bed and balcony! The only consideration is that these balcony's don’t have a roof so be aware there’s no shade. However the views of Etna and the city at night are spectacular. We could even hear opera playing from the local gardens one night. Very romantic, and so peaceful. A couple of things on the room: - The aircon is incredibly loud, bring ear plugs if you like to sleep with it on - We did experience one issue where we lost our water supply in the room, this was fortunately resolved after a few hours, but it created a new problem where the toilet would continuously flush. This was very noisy throughout the night and took 2 days to resolve and the staff were quite laid back about this despite us reporting it twice, which was frustrating as it disrupted our sleep, but again can’t be helped for an older hotel. - Spa facilities were out of service but the weather was so hot anyway we weren’t worried. We did jump in the jacuzzi briefly which is in a lovely tucked away spot. It was unfortunately very chlorine heavy and made our eyes sore so it was short lived. The pool area is so pretty and you’ll never need to worry about getting a sunbed, there are plenty and they have these fab little sunshades you can extend over the top of you - which you’ll definitely need if you go in July! Very hot. Toarmina and all its wonderul restaurants bars and shops are all within walking distance (some uphill so take water!) so location is perfect. You’ll find plenty to do and see - and eat! Late check out is available at a cost (€60 we were told) but instead there is a lovely shower on the 1st floor you can use right up until you leave, and you can leave your luggage in a side room and use the hotel facilities all day which was very kind of the staff. Overall, this is such a peaceful beautiful place to stay. If you have extremely high expectations on service and interiors etc, you’ll have to adjust them slightly and simply appreciate the hotel for all of its unique, laid back charm. Would most definitely recommend. Thanks for having us.

Minuses: -Room was not clean: Ants all over the floor!! -Bathroom had lot of dust in the airvent -Bathtub was not cleaned properly (had old soap in the drainage) -Old furniture Breakfast: Foor is poor and minimal, not what we expected from a Italian location. Instead of a great espresso, they had an instant coffee machine (industrial and zero quality or attention to clients). If the hotel can't afford a barista and a proper coffee machine to serve quality coffee to customers, maybe they should at least increase the quality of the food they serve at breakfast. Lot's of bees and pigeons at breakfast that literally attacks your food (disgusting). -Pool was not very clean (different makeup objects floating around). -AC in the room cannot be turned Off completely, the installation is very old and even when shutted down it was still blowing air all night. -No food options between 14:00 and 19:00... strange Plus: +The hotel location is very good, the room view is super nice. +Cozy bed with good matrice. +At the 5th floor there is a terrace with amazing view, accesibile to all guests. +When asked, the restaurant staff was kind to prepare some fried eggs or other things, apart from the regular, so they tried to make our breakfast a bit better. Overall: Hotel is old and needs a deep clean and renovation (you can see cracks, falling pieces from sealing or walls). Maybe if the Breakfast would have been better and a great espresso in the morning, the experience would have made me feel much better for the money paid. The locations is for sure a really good one, if the owners are willing to bring it up to 2024 and NOT still keep it in the 1980. PS: Hotel owner/staff took down my review from Agoda because they don't like it :)) probably they like to hide the dirt under the bed.
