Awesome. This hotel is quirky and absolutely wonderful. It is family run and operated. From the minute you step through the doors, you are welcomed and treated like an honoured guest. The rooms are charming. The hotel is super clean. The breakfasts on the rooftop are superb. I can’t imagine staying anywhere else in future visits.

This gem of a hotel is all the more gem-my because of its back stories - a multigenerationally family owned hotel, run by a warm and wonderful group of sisters from that family now. The lobby feels like you stumbled into someone's grandmother's parlor - just with a killer view of the sea. The rooms also don't just have the usual soulless hotel furniture -but a few quirky little pieces. Our room looked at Etna, the sea, the town - it was hard to leave. The breakfast is fantastic again - with the killer view (and one day we were leaving at 630 AM before breakfast began to hike Etna - and they opened up early for us which was great). The evening cocktail bar - great views, and every cocktail comes with a treasure trove of mezze and snacks. The front desk was helpful and someone was there 24 hours which was useful with odd arrival and departure times. The location is unbeatable - next to the glorious public gardens - walking distance to everything, but just enough off the beaten path that it is not in the midst of it all. I am guilty of wanting to stay because of White Lotus - but instead of a staid dysfunctional entitled hotel - we got something that felt familiar and special.

Our stay at this hotel had its highlights, notably the stunning view from the rooftop breakfast terrace, which was truly spectacular, and the variety of breakfast options available. The hotel's location is indeed ideal, conveniently situated within walking distance of excellent restaurants and shops. For guests arriving by car, the paid valet parking service provided by the hotel proved to be efficient and reliable. However, there were some disappointing aspects of our experience. Despite being advertised as a "garden view," our room overlooked noisy public tennis courts rather than a tranquil garden setting. Additionally, the air conditioning system functioned only as a heater, which was less than ideal for the warmer weather and unacceptable at this price point. The rooms themselves were on the smaller side and showed signs of a lackluster refurbishment. Furthermore, certain design choices, such as the always flickering dimmable lights and the slippery stairs leading into the bathroom, proved to be quite inconvenient. Perhaps the most significant downside of our stay was the demeanor of the older gentleman manning the front desk during the night. Unlike the day staff, his rudeness and unwillingness to address issues that arose with our room left a sour taste in our mouths. He even insisted on cash payment for the valet parking, despite it being his oversight that it wasn't included in our bill upon checkout. This resulted in the only unpleasant back-and-forth with anyone during our trip. It's unfortunate how one negative encounter can impact an establishment's reputation. Despite the hotel's strengths, its numerous shortcomings and the unfavorable demeanor of one staff member make it difficult to justify the expense.
