The Sant Alphio Garden was the second hotel we stayed at as part of an organised group trip. The entrance/lobby/bar area has a clean, modern feel in contrast to the restaurant we used, which was very large, but far more traditional. Our large, airy room (401) was right next to the lift - literally, turn to the left and the room door is in front of you - but this did not cause any noise issues during our stay. Our balcony provided an excellent view of the pool and towards the sea - but watch your head on the canopy. In the bathroom, we had a very large shower cubicle, so it was odd that it was impossible to angle the water away from the wall at the control end. We did notice some rooms at lower levels just have a view of walkways so it's worth checking which part of the hotel you are going to be in when booking. Four courses were provided for evening meals - with a choice of two dishes for the second and third. The food on offer was well cooked, but I did feel some of the choices did not perhaps reflect local cuisine. The breakfast buffet was what you expect from a four star hotel with hot and cold options available. The beach is accessible within a few minutes walk and you can get a bus to Taormina from a bus stop which is only a few minutes walk away. However, if you are in the area to visit Taormina, a hotel in the town itself will save you quite a bit of time. Sant Alphio Garden staff bring your luggage to your room on arrival and there is also a policy for them to collect the suitcases at the end of your stay and take it downstairs to the coach. However, we felt having to put the cases out on the final day at 0700 was not helpful, as it meant we were unable to clean our teeth following breakfast, and we would have been quite happy to bring them down ourselves.

“Smart hotel catering for large groups”

We were glad to have a spacious and comfortable room. We were in a large group and there were several other large groups of tourists there too. Catering is therefore done efficiently but on a huge scale and we found the food disappointing.
