“Great value with stunning views”

Stayed in June 2006. Difficult to find at first as it is off the beaten track but it was nearly dark when we arrived and we missed the massive signs on the main road so maybe we were a bit to blame. Stayed in June 2006. Difficult to find at first as it is off the beaten track but it was nearly dark when we arrived and we missed the massive signs on the main road so maybe we were a bit to blame. The location is fantastic and try and get a sea view if you can. The rooms that overlook the sea were still being prepared/occupied when we visited so this wasnt an option. The staff are fantastic. English spoken by the owner (he is improving) but it was great to be somewhere where English wasnt being spoken. Can get a bit noisy at the end of the night when they are clearing up but we were so tired from our days out (surprising how lying in the sunshine is so tiring). The coastline is superb with clean beaches that are virtually empty in the week but busy at weekends. The only problem we had was with the jellyfish that invaded 'our' beach as it was so secluded and tranquil. i have still got a jellyfish sting scar on my knee!!! Food and drink is a bit pricey but not so different to the rest of Italy. Go there and enjoy

“Hotel Santa Maria - rural retreat, great value, friendly”

Hotel Santa Maria only opened in 2005 so everything is new. For the low price, having a lovely clean pool is great value, very nice rooms. A good family deal - two interconnected bedrooms sharing bathroom. To get away from it all, can't be beaten - 20 minutes by car to anywhere at all, hard to find… more

A good family deal - two interconnected bedrooms sharing bathroom. To get away from it all, can't be beaten - 20 minutes by car to anywhere at all, hard to find at the beginning. Quiet farmland, lots of wildlife, hear the distant cow bells and buzzing insects. Like lizards? Friendly family own and run it, anxious to please and chatty (in Italian - this is a real piece of Sardinia

This quiet remote rural hotel has a very friendly and accommodating manager and the meals are reasonably priced and pretty good however, you should note you may not be staying in the main hotel complex. There are separate rooms 100m down the hill and these rooms are not represented on expedia. Our room was very clean albeit the mattress was extremely hard, there is no wi-fi available and the nearest beach is very busy all day every day at high season. Also at the height of the season towns, north and south of Santa Maria, are also extremely busy and parking, although cheap or free, is very frustrating. Sardinia, although very pretty and charming, there is no infrastructure for catering for so many tourists at the height of the Season. For instance going to the beach or visiting a town means looking for a parking place for up to an hour. The hotel was very peaceful which was needed after day of driving about.
