“All round excellent hotel!”

Excellent couldn’t fault. Staff were amazing and so friendly, couldn’t do enough. The food was brilliant, I don’t understand the negativity of other reviews. Breakfast had loads of choice, and great quality. If you want an English breakfast stay home, you’re in Italy! Saying that the hotel tried with crispy bacon, scrambled eggs and frankfurters. For me the yogurt, fruit, warm pastries and frittata with fresh bread was preferable. And the cakes were delicious. The lunch snack restaurant was great value and very good. Lots of choice. Dinner, half board options were very good. Remember this is a traditional Italian family restaurant. It won’t be like home but was very tasty and enough options for even the unadventurous. One evening we paid for the ala cart menu as a special occasion and it was amazing. Beef in truffle sauce! Beautiful desserts. Very good value and delicious. In a lovely garden setting. The pool area is perfect, lovely lemon trees, friendly and well stocked bar. Music, plenty of loungers and very clean, although not heated pool. Both bars were great as were the cocktails! The room was traditional in look but great quality. A lovely balcony, good shower, decent furniture. Even a modern tv with Netflix etc. Mini bar and safe. Nice toiletries. Only slightly disappointed with amount of power sockets and under powered hairdryer. Housekeeping staff did a brilliant job of keeping the place immaculate. Air conditioning too! And electric shutters to keep light out if needed. Ok location, it’s outside Sorrento but public transportation was very easy, trust me the train was simple and inexpensive. Reception gave us a map and timetable. Plus once when we wanted an early taxi to the port they arranged that too. Also the Amalfi coast is popular and there are a lot of people. It was nice to escape the bustle to the quieter suburbs. I would happily return as it’s a quality, budget friendly hotel with staff who really go out their way.

We have just spent 7 nights at the Alpha as a family of 5 in two interconnecting rooms. It is in need of an update in some areas but it is a lovely small hotel with a great family run vibe where the staff are exceptional. The pool area and gardens are lovely, rooms very comfortable and the food really good. We thought there was a great breakfast selection and the evening meals offered a lot of choice, although some fresh veg would have been nice. What was great was to see locals using the hotel as a venue too for parties and celebrations throughout the week- this is surely the sign of a great place! Location is slightly out of town but the public transport is excellent and the walk into Sorrento, sometimes along the stunning coastline, is only about 25 minutes. We travelled by train to Pompeii and paid on site rather than on an official trip- so much cheaper although I highly recommend a guide once inside. You can also get the train to Vesuvius if you fancy a hike. We did a boat trip to Capri which was an excellent day out too. About. A five minute walk away is the Marinella Beach club where you can take the lift down to the sea and hire sun loungers for the day. Well worth it! All in an all a great location to explore the area…Thankyou Alpha!

“Good base, but a couple of issues”

More of a 3.5 really but Trip Advisor doesn’t allow half stars. We used this hotel as a base whilst visiting Sorrento and surrounding islands - it’s in Sant’Agnello, so about 30 mins walk from Sorrento, but there is a train station nearby with regular trains into town. I’ll start with the pros: • We stayed on the second floor (rooms 202 and 214) which I believe has been recently refurbished. Rooms were spacious, modern and clean, with big balconies from which you could see the pool area. Rooms were kept spotless by housekeeping. • We really liked the pool area and there were always plenty of sun beds - we didn’t notice any noise from the road as others have said. • Staff were on the whole friendly and attentive, particularly the reception staff. • We had a vegan in our party, and although our experience of getting vegan food in this hotel was largely not great (more on this later) one of the waiters really did try his best, taking time to talk us through the lunch menu, and which options could be adapted and made vegan. I didn’t catch his name unfortunately, but he was bald. • Location was good, it was away from the hustle and bustle of Sorrento, but it was easy enough to walk to, or to get the train. Cons • As I said, getting vegan food was a bit of a battle, especially at breakfast. Initially, the staff didn’t seem to understand what vegan food was, bringing us lactose free milk and yoghurt, instead of dairy free. We asked if any provisions could be made and when they couldn’t, we ended up having to buy our own vegan food from a supermarket and getting them to heat it up for us, and we were made to feel like a nuisance for requesting this. One of the waiters in particular was brusque to the point of rudeness. • Even the non-vegan food was mediocre at best - as others have said, the breakfast selection wasn’t as varied as at other places, and the dinner food was just ok. We ended up eating out in Sorrento pretty much every night. • As others have said, it felt like the hotel was scrimping in certain areas - €4 for water, and no bottled water in the rooms except the minibar. Also the rule about only having 1 pool towel for the whole stay. They claimed it was for environmental reasons, but were quite happy to serve all the poolside drinks in disposable cups with plastic straws. On the whole, Hotel Alpha did serve its purpose, in that it was a good, comfortable base for us to explore the area, and most of the staff were helpful, but I would hesitate before staying again.

Lovely staff. Traditional shabby chic - some areas could do with updating. Room fresh, bright and clean not huge but plenty of storage and good shower in bathroom. Lovely staff. Traditional shabby chic - some areas could do with updating. Room fresh, bright and clean not huge but plenty of storage and good shower in bathroom. Food was very nice always a choice and a gala dinner once a week. Barman and drinks waiter were fabulous making recommendations and great service. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. Pool bar was good too. Iced coffee a must as well as the basil vodka punch ! Not impressed with young children running around outside at 11.30pm screaming in the garden and also along the corridor !!! I like the family friendly atmosphere but that was unacceptable as no respect for other guests. Why are there reserved sunbeds for some customers ???
