“Fabulous hotel for a quiet break ”

A fabulous hotel, perfect for anyone looking for a relaxing holiday in a lovely setting with amazing facilities. We enjoyed a pool room that was perfect, great food and drink. Pros: - the rooms are lovely. We had a double/ twin. Comfy beds, lovely furniture, Nespresso coffee machine, fridge for drinks, amazing bathroom. - rooms with pools are 100% worth it. Ours was amazing and we couldn't have asked for a better room. - the main pool is amazing. - reception staff are always prompt and helpful. - the sea is beautiful. - staff are great; it's not too full on, just right for us! - the house wine and cocktails are delicious. - the hotel feels big but is easy to navigate and everything is close to wherever you are. - the activities put on by Rachael are great. Highly recommend the classes, pool party and aqua sessions. - food is great, lots of choice and a well set out restaurant. It's nice inside and outside. The singers/ musicians that are put on are wonderful. The staff cooking and sorting the food are lovely. - the grounds of this hotel are wonderful for an evening stroll. - location for us was perfect. It was quiet at all times. Cons: - Pool service is slow. It's almost as if the pool bar is understaffed as there was often queues and there needed to be more waiters taking drinks orders at the bar. The staff were lovely, it's more the hotel company that this falls to. At points the main restaurant seemed to suffer a little with a lack of staff too. - despite being 30, the app / online approach to all information was not great. This is clearly a company decision but menus, room info, programmes etc are all on your phone via QR codes. We wanted to spend less time on our phones so found this a bit rubbish! There's nothing wrong with room info printed with restaurant timings etc and menus on tables for cocktails and food. - Al la carte restaurant had great service and the food was nice. It just seemed the idea should be more exciting - perhaps mezze or a specific cuisine so it's more impressive and feels more special. - once you check out, the service falls away. We used a courtesy room but felt a rushed and it only had bath towels without much consideration for the basics required to get yourself ready for a flight home. Hopefully Atlantica recognise the service doesn't end at check out. - we wished the entertainment was a bit more buzzy! It's not far from Kardemena town for more of an atmosphere but not walkable. The singers/ bands were good but not set for our age so we found evenings quite dull. Despite the "luxury", people love a DJ, karaoke or a dance, something more interactive, maybe some magic for one or two nights which at least appeals to those that don't want to hear music from the 70s/80s etc. Hopefully there becomes some recognition there's a lot of 20/30 year old couples and friends that spend as much money at this hotel and would like to be entertained too. We also would have spent more money on drinks if there was more for us to watch. - there is one bar open in the evening, which is where the entertainment is outside or inside which is so brightly lit and has badly configured seating so not much space. It meant there was no where but our room to have an after dinner drink and play a game as the pool and snack bar were closed. The hotel misses a trick here as we happily would have gone elsewhere to have a quiet drink each evening. Tips/ things to consider: - we did half board and it worked perfectly for us. We paid for a couple of delicious cocktails (8-10 euros each) and wine at dinner but it meant we could get out for local food at lunch. - we hired a car. There was always parking and it meant we could enjoy Kos on our own timings. - if you are half board, you can swap your dinner to a lunch so you don't miss out! - tip the staff, they remember you and you get more out of them. But if you don't, you aren't treated quite the same (we learnt this as the holiday went on). - you don't need to take your own towels but be aware the are only collectable 10am-6pm so if you arrive early, you may want to. - the cobbles that make up the main walkways are gorgeous but can be difficult in heels or hard soles/ floppy shoes. It's always relatively inaccessible for those with challenges walking on uneven ground. - take towel pegs for the breeze. - the spa is gorgeous but at a luxury price. You can get a better price but they are still extremely high.

“Almost perfect.”

From the moment we arrived late in the evening we were offered a cool drink or prosecco and were swiftly taken to our room 716 by buggy. The hotel has a very relaxed vibe and we had no trouble getting a sunbed by the pool or beach no matter what time of day. The food is of a high standard and we booked the Culinarium one evening which was delicious despite the high charge for the wine. Big shout out to these 2; Anastasia and Natasha (snack bar) such delightful members of your staff. Theo and Ingrid were very helpful as were all the staff throughout the complex. Entertainment- had some fabulous acts in the evening but would be good to have some greek dancing or guests could have the chance to participate in dancing. TUi trips to Nisyros and Island cruise were fabulous. Now the negatives - our room was let down by a poor standard of housekeeping. We only noticed as we checked out and looked under the bed and saw that the bottom of the mattress had hanging cobwebs and the floor was covered in hairs and what looked like dust and debris/dead bugs including an old sugar sachet. Under the bed clearly hadn't even been swept in quite a while. I reported this to reception who were very apologetic and took note of this. When we checked in there was no toilet paper- we had to ask reception at almost midnight for toilet paper. Also a duster with hairs was left in our room by housekeeping and we had to ask for milk for coffee and new sheets as they had stains on them. The hotel was immaculate throughout and we found this neglect of the room very disappointing. As we had a late flight we asked for a late check out and was quoted €140 with no guarantee of the room! Much better to ask for a room to use to shower than pay to keep your own room for €140 for a few hours. We would definitely return again as it really is a beautiful place with a short bus ride to Kardamena, just not to this particular room due to the poor standard of housekeeping and which wouldn't be suitable for elderly people due to the steep cobblestone walk and flights of stairs to the room.
