“Agios nikitas is a fantastic resort”

The hotel is basic, and this is what you pay for. It seems to be the only hotel that british tour operators use, so unless you travel independently, the only way to stay in the resort is to come here. Rooms are a good size, balcony is fine for two persons, any more would be a squeeze. Most rooms seem to be sea view apart from a small block near the exit. Pool is good sized and goes shallow ( 2-3 steps in, about 2 feet) to very deep (8 ft) pool bar is decent with tables and chairs, only ever had greek coffee, and mythos in frozen glass, so can't comment on the food they serve, advertised as open till 11 but we were never back by then. Sun loungers could do with updating. Hotel reception and lounge area is basic. ( who sits in reception anyway? )When we arrived with another couple, they asked for a kettle, so we did, duly arrived in our room whilst we were having a look at the view from our balcony. The only other interaction with reception was to ask for more hangers (6 suppled), quick phone call, and we had 12 by the time we returned to the room, still not enough but I'm happy just to lay my stuff flat. So on that limited ( and limited time at reception is always a sign of a contented guest). I would commend them. The cleaning ladies were friendly, pool bar staff friendly, reception friendly everyone was friendly. Breakfast (basic small greek hotel style) was in the main bar area, with an outside terrace, opens at 8am, so every morning I'd trot out and get 2 coffees, and sit on the balcony for a while, there's no reason you couldn't take some croissants or cake back if you wanted. We never went into the bar area at night, so comment on the ambience. So now the elephant in the room... the hill. The village is fantastic, pedestrianised (the odd workers scooter ), and enough tavernas/restaurants, but peaceful (strangely not a contradiction) it might be different in high season, we are here in the middle of September, so few british kids. I digress, the HILL. From the beach it's a comfortable walk up to the main road (where the cars park). Then you have a steep 300 yard walk to the hotel entrance. We have a dog at home, so i get my steps in, but the first night, having had a long day, lovely meal, and more than a few beers, I thought my lungs were going to burst. It got easier from that night on, and we sometimes stopped at the olive garden at the bottom of the steep hill for an ouzo, and to 'gerder our loins ' .Once you compartmentalise the hill it is a lot easier. Would I stay here again..yes. would I come back to the resort, definitely (I can now get why some people go to the same resort every year). I do think that we may come back independently and book an hotel or a room in the village (all very greek looking ). Two youngish men at the hotel seem to have come up with a solution, hire a moped, park it at the bottom drive back at night, they passed us several times. Now if the hotel utilised the hotel mini bus, and did 3 or 4 pick ups on the hour, I think most people would pay a couple of euros to cover the cost. If you've not been here before, go for it. Overall good hotel (great for the price, and the staff) fantastic resort.

“Very pleasant stay”

“DON'T TAKE CASH, THERE'S NO FOREIGN EXCHANGE IN AGIOS NIKITAS.”

DON'T BOOK THIS HOTEL IF YOU STRUGGLE WITH MOBILITY, THE DRIVE HAS A 25% GRADIENT. As the title says, don't bring currency here and expect to change it in the resort, THERE'S NOWHERE TO EXCHANGE YOUR CASH in the resort and you will have to make a bus trip to Lefkada town to one of the banks. The hotel does not exchange cash so you will need Euro's to pay for meals and drinks that are not included during your stay. Good points: Like others, we can't fault the maid service room cleaned daily and clean towels provided, sheets replaced weekly. Air conditioning was unrestricted and there was nothing extra to pay for it. The mattress was supportive and comfortable, the room was adequate, there was a fridge and a room safe that was free to use. The staff were friendly and the service was very good. Not so good points: We booked with Jet2 Holidays and their website said that there was a kettle in the room.... there wasn't, luckily we'd bought our own. Although the hotel take luggage and guests up the hill from the drop off point, to the hotel, this transport otherwise sits idle when it could be used to transport guests down the steep drive and hill to the road, from where it is a short walk down to the shops and restaurants in Agios Nikitas. Even if there was a charge and a schedule for this, guests would happily pay. On the subject of transport, there are no taxis based in Agios Nikitas. To get a taxi, you have to phone for one to come from Lefkada with a €40 surcharge. Breakfast, a buffet breakfast with lots of choice, for the Brits, there was no bacon and the sausage was cut into small pieces. The views from our room (228) were fantastic, the cobbled (mostly) pavement down the main shopping/restaurant area that lead to the beach was on a reasonably gentle hill and there were old buildings with faded wooden shutters and small side alleys, there are car, bike, scooter and quad bikes for hire and some very good restaurants.... just nowhere to change currency. Meals out cost us on average €35 for 2 starters, 2 mains water Fanta and a glass of wine. In the hotel, a metaxa and coke will cost an eye watering €9 a time (£7.76 at the current exchange rate) the house wine costs €5.50 for a half litre carafe and a draft beer litre will cost around €3.50 Overall we had a great time at the Santa Marina and would recommend it to anyone who can walk steep hills in the heat and would recommend either bringing Euros with you or a card that gives you access to cash from one of the three ATM machines in the resort.
