“Cretan Holiday”

We are still at this amazing friendly hotel.... The food ..staff rooms are all very good ... We will be back in September hopefully....we arrived late but there was cheery Stavros with a salad and refreshments .... “A lovely hotel, friendly staff in a quiet area of Maleme”

Maleme Mare is situated across the road from a pebble beach. It is a quiet area and away from any attractions but there is a bus service about 10 minutes walk away which can take you to Chania (30 minutes), Platanias (15 minutes) and Agua Marina. Maleme Mare is situated across the road from a pebble beach. It is a quiet area and away from any attractions but there is a bus service about 10 minutes walk away which can take you to Chania (30 minutes), Platanias (15 minutes) and Agua Marina. The bus cost 2 euros to get to Chania, so very reasonable. They run roughly every half hour. You find your spot on the bus and a conductor will collect your fare once you have told him your destination. They usually announce the destination by shouting down the bus. The room was spacious and we had an amazing sea and mountain view plus a good size balcony. Our room had an open plan shower/toilet/sink but with opaque glass doors to give you privacy. In the room we had a fridge and kettle, cups and saucers plus two glasses. There was no kitchen sink but a small table and chair. The TV in the room had multiple channels but we only found 2 in English - BBC World News and Sky News. Someone suggested bringing a firestick to allow for more films etc to watch. If you have mobility problems I would advise asking for a ground floor room as some rooms require you to climb up a flight of steps. At breakfast you had a lot of choice -English breakfast, cereals, toast, fruit and yogurt, pancakes and croissants, cheese, ham, cake plus much more. Lunch and dinner had a good salad choice plus a selection of meats, vegetables, fish, vegetarian. There seemed to be spaghetti bolognese every night maybe for the children. A few desserts were also on offer. The bar had a range of drinks and between 6.30- 10.30 alcoholic drinks such as spirits and cocktails were available. Teas and coffees were available from self service. We had 3 evenings of entertainment -Karaoke, Singer and Greek Night. Surprisingly, the karaoke night was the best night even if you didn't take part. The staff at the hotel were some of the most friendly and attentive we have met. At reception Kyriakes made us feel welcome and could answer any queries we had. Specials thanks to Benjamin who was always busy clearing our plates away and smiling. Behind the bar Sassa served us a whole variety of cocktails, offered alternatives if a drink (vermouth) was unavailable and surprised us twice with Sambuca and Baileys. Stavros was a right character and could be heard laughing with guests and making them feel very welcome. We had a great time even if the weather was cooler than England. Thank you to you all.
