Just returned from 11 nights at the Maria Rousse, and we couldn't have picked a better hotel, or had a more perfect holiday! George, Barbara and Tony gave us a lovely warm welcome, despite our late (midnightish) arrival due to our flight being delayed, and we felt immediately at home - although we did have a little trouble finding our way in to the hotel, as the big airport transfer bus drops off on the main road due to the narrow streets and vaguely points you diagonally down an unlikely-looking road! However, we were obviously expected, and were greeted promptly and professionally by these lovely hosts, and they even kept the bar open so we could grab a welcome drink after checking in. We had 2 apartments for the 3 of us, very close to each other which was great as my 18 year old daughter was a little nervous of being on her own. As mentioned in other reviews, the only slight downside was the additional charge for air con when booked through a third party (it's included when you book direct with the hotel), but it was a no-brainer for us, and was efficient and totally worth it. The rooms were not huge, but were plenty big enough, and each had a large terrace (ours, room 109, with a lovely pool and mountain view, fab for watching the sunrise!). They were well-equipped, with hotplate, kettle and toaster - though a chest of drawers might have been a useful addition in the sleeping area. It was simple, pretty, immaculately clean, the beds were really comfy and the shower was amazing. The bathroom did flood a little, but soon drained and dried, and they even provided a fluffy little bathmat, so often missing from wetrooms and a nice homely and practical touch! The hotel itself is really pretty - low-rise buildings, and the gardens and pool areas are just beautiful, so well maintained, and even better than the photos. They are quite strict on noise and pool etiquette, though in early September, it was just at a nice level of busy-ness, with no big groups or young children, and though near to the Malia Strip, it was peaceful and relaxing during our entire stay, with good, unintrusive background music when chilling by the pool. Sun beds were plentiful and comfy. Bliss! The pool bars at both of the 2 pools were great, with prices reasonable and the food and drink we tried delicious. In short, we had a pretty perfect stay at this fab hotel on this lovely island; we were sad to leave, and wouldn't hesitate to return or recommend it to others. Thank you to all at the Maria Rousse for making our return to foreign holidaying so memorable for all the right reasons!

“A hidden gem”

Cleanliness .. immaculate .. everywhere Hosts and staff .. perfect .. lovely family atmosphere Don't go here if you are expecting all night parties and entertainment .. strict "quiet rule" after 11pm Can still be noise tho from people at the bar which has pool table and 2 tvs Food and drink all reasonably priced and well cooked. Safety .. most of us had our doors open 24/7 .. security patrolled at night with most entrances closed and locked. My friend left some electrical devices out on the table on our patio .. that were still there in the morning Rooms cleaned bi-daily On top extras .. local tax .. payable in cash On top extras .. safety deposit box and air conditioning We found shower was too small for us and if we bent over our bums kept turning it off 😂😂😂 Personally I would have liked a few more drawers in the room Room and patio area a nice size We were self catering .. 2 ring stove .. kettle & toaster provided .. but only 1 plug .. kitchen area really tiny They do bed and breakfast & 1/2 board Buffet breakfast served in an enclosed restaurant .. evening meal you chose 3 courses off the special 1/2 board menu in the outside restaurant .. personally I think a breakfast choice menu would also be a good idea instead of the buffet style We were by the main pool area .. there is a second pool with rooms around it .. plus some more apartments across the road Nice touch .. book shelves to swop books and corner to leave part used sun tan lotion as well as all the pool floats etc that people left .. we will be returning

“Another fantastic visit”

My partner and I stayed here for 10 nights in September 2022. We enjoyed it so much we came back for 14 nights in September 2024. My partner and I stayed here for 10 nights in September 2022. We enjoyed it so much we came back for 14 nights in September 2024. The staff at the Maria Rousse are friendly and the hotel was immaculate. We used the bottom pool this time which was brilliant and special thanks to Aris, who was the perfect host, always smiling and happy. Sunbeds were great and always readily available. The hotel is a 5 minute walk to the top of the strip but is far enough away to still be very quiet and relaxing.

This was our first holiday in Crete and plan to return to the splendid Maria Rousse hotel Don't be deterred if the coach driver drops you off on the main road and points to the end of a lane way saying there! It was just a 5 minute walk until you set eyes on the hotel Security were present & around the entrance of the gate throughout our 1 week holiday Our clean and spacious apartment was situated behind the bar area on the corner of the block which was a little noisy at times but the extremely comfortable beds helped a lot We chose half board with the option of going out some evenings to visit the old town - I would recommend this as it was good value for money with a limited menu but decent selection of meal choice The breakfast was simple but tasty with the kind lady called Barbara providing me with a carton of Oat milk due to my intolerance to dairy - muchly appreciated The local beer "Mythos" was 4e a pint not a bad price so we took advantage of this most evenings - We booked a Cretan night with lots of fun and laughter with the added option of a shot or 2 of Raki - The old town was walking distance and a must as lots going & great places to eat and drink All staff were so hospitable & we hope to return in 2025 but next time choose an apartment in the newer part. Air-con was an extra fee quite costly and not so reliable for the week Thankyou for an enjoyable and relaxing week
