“Mostly good, some let downs which were a shame”

The good stuff: The hotel is set in beautiful grounds, which are maintained daily. It has a great position on a shingle beach. The staff, mostly, are friendly, hard working and attentive. We stayed in a suite, room 159, it was spacious and well appointed. The amenities are great in the room, large spa standard soaps, shampoos, conditioners, and great accessories such as shaving essentials and sewing kits. The main restaurant, Symposio, has a great standard of food. There are other a la carte restaurants. The best service was at the crepe and gelato restaurant next to Allegro. We opted for breakfast here most days with a savoury crepe as the service was always quick, friendly and the food was good. The staff here, especially Georgia, were fantastic. She took time with all of her customers, chatted, made them feel welcome, yet was professional and ensured the service ran smoothly. The drinks service on Minis and the pool and beach bars were exemplary. The not so good stuff. The indoor pool is old, unclean and unappealing. Someone had written “clean me” in the grime on the pool walls. It needs an overhaul. The mini bar was never restocked, we had to chase down the cleaners with the stock each morning. There are not enough sun beds on the beach, so we laid towels on the shingle when we visited. The main buffet restaurant could do with a little more ambiance as does feel like a school canteen. Lifting the shades to enjoy a view? Candles or lamps on the table? Some music? Upgrade of chairs and tables? Lots of west and tear throughout the hotel, touch ups in rooms were not finished well. The a la carte restaurants need to be a la carte. We opted for the main restaurant in the end as the quality of the food and the service on the a la carte were not as good as the main restaurant. Mainly the food ordered was not as described. Maybe as we were in the last week of the season they were doing their best with the food stocked? But, it was evident that something was amiss in every a la carte we visited. The service was also slow and inattentive. We left most early as we were forgotten near the close of our meals. Again, maybe different due to being the last week of the season. I would return, if I knew these things were rectified.

“A 5 Star hotel in facilities, with 3 Star service and catering”

We spent a week in this hotel in October 24. The room style, size and facilities (shower,loo etc) were excellent, although we had to ask for top-ups for tea etc. In general, the room service was very good. The features of the hotel, and what it had to offer were also excellent -- pools, loungers, towels, poolside bars, fancy upmarket shops, Thalasso, squash courts, tennis courts, sauna all created a `5-Star' atmosphere to the place. However, the whole was badly let down by very poor catering, and service. Arriving at breakfast, we would find a table and wait for up to 10 minutes before a waitress would appear to ask if we wanted coffee. She would then disappear for 5 minutes before returning with luke warm coffee (which was sometimes undrinkable). We then had to ask for orange juice...... What was bizarre is that there appeared to be plenty of staff buzzing around, they just weren't paying attention to the guests. Secondly, although the offering at the self-service buffet was plentiful and very extensive in choice, all the food was, at best, luke-warm! Everything was ostensibly kept warm under warming covers (downlights) but you got the impression that the food was coming out of the kitchens cold in the first place. Service in the Minos bar was particularly slow and inattentive. It was quite possible there to have to wait for 15 minutes before being approached, and then having to wait while the waiter and barman did everything but simply serve the drinks and bring them. Again, it didn't seem to be a question of the numbers of staff; they just didn't seem to feel that they were there to serve the guests. We also dined twice in the Candia, and although it was a nice change, the food quality wasn't sufficiently different for us to want to go back - although at least their service was excellent. All in all, a great shame; terrific location, fantastic facilities, badly let down by quality of catering and poor overall service. Nowhere near 5 Star

We visited this hotel in early October. Transfer was approx 40 minutes from the airport & the hotel is very impressive when you arrive. Check in was quick & we were taken to our room on a golf buggy & the porter was very friendly. The resort is pretty large & set up like a village. We used the main pool & never had problem getting a sun lounger with a parasol. Had drinks orders taken from our sunbed which was a nice touch. The main buffet was more like a canteen, so we sat on the terrace & the staff were always polite even thou they were always busy. Breakfast was our favourite meal in the main buffet has we both struggled with lunch & dinner, always managed to find something but with odd combinations. We booked the restaurants on the app before we arrived. We ate at Asian, Italian, Mediterranean & Pacifico & we enjoyed all of these with lovely staff. We enjoyed the mojitos & pina coladas. The beach has a small seating area & it was lovely to sit with a drink, my husband did snorkel most days. There are several shops which sells some lovely stuff & holiday essentials. We were also unsure if you can visit the other Mitsis resorts close by. We did have a few issues with our room but when reported to reception was dealt with very efficiently. We did request certain drinks in our mini bar but that never happened which was disappointing. The room was comfy & plenty of sockets, we were in block 3 so was perfect & a side sea view when sitting on the balcony overlooking the private pools. There was also an issue with a member of the bar staff team & this is where our holiday ended. When asked by reception have we had a nice time we then explained all the little issues we had & the bar staff member. We were sent to guest relations to whom we explained all the issues. She sent us to breakfast & said to come back. Yes this was our last full day & took up over an hour of our precious time but OMG on our return a manger was called & they certainly know how to deal with guests & complaints. We get things go wrong but it’s always how things are put right & the staff certainly did this for us. This was such a shame that we had these issues & not what you expect from a 5 star hotel. The only thing that was missing is a snack bar thru out the day around the main pool, yes there is a creperie which was lovely but not everyones taste. Also it’s a shame the Italian restaurant doesn’t open in the evening. Would we return to a Mitsis, yes we would & would love to give them the opportunity to provide a great stay.
