After various holidays in other Mitsis hotels (Alila, Blue domes, Rodos village), we decided it was time to try this wonderful hotel on the Island of Crete. We were picked up by the hotel from the airport (free of charge, because we booked directly with them). Were welcomed with a lovely drink and a hot towel. Our room was ready by 2pm. We are mentors at the Mitsis chain, which gave us certain priviliges during our stay such as a late check out free of charge, free room upgrade and an invite to the management cocktail party on Wednesday evening. All in all we had an amazing stay of 10 days, we had dinner in the buffet restaurant twice. It was once of the best buffet restaurants of all Mitsis hotels we have stayed in, I liked the variety of food and I am a very picky eater. All was warm (mainly because we barely choose the pre-made options). We booked the a la carte restaurants in advance in the app, you can dine in each restaurant once per 7 days. We loved all restaurants, the Italian one in particular. Staff was very friendly, had time for a chat. We had relatively quick service everywhere, only had to wait sometime sometimes at the night bar. Remember you are on a holiday and all is fine :-). We think there should be more seats at the night bar, if you dine late (we like to have dinner at 21:00), you need to be lucky to find a seat. Service at the creperie was not the best - we didn't mind but got a double drink and one crepe less so something must have gone wrong. Hallways in the main building are noisy - if you are a light sleeper, pack earplugs. Could be fixed by replacing the doors for heavier ones. Our shower fluxuated which was annoying but okay. The beach is not ideal. The beach bar has a very limited amount of cocktails they serve, the beach is full of rocks. There is only 1 point where you can enter the sea. We had an amazing honeymoon holiday, we felt cared for and came back super relaxed.

We stayed at Mitsis Laguna Beach three times in one year. We are avid travelers, but no hotel can match the friendliness you experience from the entire staff at this hotel. Cretan hospitality is well-known, but it also characterizes the staff of other nationalities. The location and rooms are superb. The pools are perfect for swimming laps. The themed restaurants are top-notch, with a wine list that is impressive. If you can't find what you want on the cocktail menu, the bar mixologists will effortlessly make whatever you like. The champagne/sushi bar is an absolute must-try. Everything is freshly made. In short, once you've been there, you'll look forward to your next stay. Our fourth stay is already booked.

“Family Holiday”

We had a lovely family holiday here in June. The property is beautiful, and our room was very nice with an added bonus of a partial sea view which was a nice surprise. We arrived well after midnight to a warm welcome from the staff and helped to our spotlessly clean room. The communal areas such as pool and toilets were spotlessly clean. Regarding sunbeds, we did not struggle to find any but I suspect if you were to visit during school holidays, you absolutely would unless you got up at the crack of dawn. Despite being told you cannot reserve sunbeds, we saw a lot of it going on and particularly over lunch this was an issue. The childrens facilities were very good, my daughter loved the slide and playground and it was nice to have a small pool specifically for small kids. We found the food to be fine, despite many reviews saying it was not good particularly in the main buffet. The only evening meal we did not enjoy in the main buffet was the Indian evening, but the Greek night was superb and the beef Stifado was delicious. There was a very nice selection of fresh grilled meats and fish, and also very nice desserts. We tried the Cretan Tavern and Pan Asian restaurants and both were very nice, though I found the set up a bit strange with the a la cartes in that they are essentially one big restaurant with screens between them. Sadly I had to deduct one star from my review as we were annoyed by the late checkout system and it marred our final day at the hotel. We booked this in advance of our holiday, but it was cancelled the day before by email simply stating the hotel was full. I find it unbelievable that they cannot know this in advance and give more notice. When we questioned this at reception, we were offered a courtesy room for 30 minutes to shower in but the only slot we could get was 6 hours before our taxi was due to arrive. Had we not asked, I suspect we would not have got this service at all as there is absolutely no indication from the hotel that its available but it appears to book up very fast. If you are not checking your emails regularly then you wouldn't even know your late checkout was cancelled. It felt a little bit like the hotel washed their hands of us and it made our day very challenging logistically.

“Not as good as it used to be”

When I last visited and reviewed this hotel I said it was the best hotel that I’d ever stayed in and gave it 5 stars…..what a difference a few years make! There are positives…..the rooms are spacious, spotless and clean. The pool service is excellent and for the most part the staff are friendly and eager to please. Here’s the issues. The food isn’t great. We ate in each of the 4 a la carte restaurants and none of them were particularly memorable (avoid the fish restaurant…..everything was overcooked and lobster inedible). The food in the main dining room is better but repetitive. The cheap local alcohol is exactly that, and getting drinks in the evening was a nightmare with regular waits of more than half an hour…..not really what I’d expect from a premium priced 5 star hotel. In addition, despite getting a note saying that you must not put towels on sun beds to reserve them, this isn’t enforced. You have to have your towels on the sun beds at the main pool by 0830. Many of the beds remain empty with towels on them until 1000….joke! I’ve stayed at a few Mitsis hotels now. This was always the stand out hotel and was worth of it hefty price tag. No more I’m afraid!
