The thoughtful staff, optimal location, and the comfortable accommodations and facilities made this an amazing hotel stay while my friend and I were in Chania! Location: There are several pharmacies and a grocery store, as well as a taxi ranking only a few minutes walk from the hotel. Old town Chania and the Venetian harbor was only a 5-10 minute walk and Nea Chora beach was about a 19 minute walk away. We also received a handy map when we arrived to help us get around. All in all, the hotel was within comfortable walking distance of everything we wanted to do on this trip, as well as necessary amenities. Accomodations: Because I booked directly, we had a free bottle of wine and a plate of fruit waiting for us when we checked into our room. The balcony was spacious and far enough from the street that there was barely any noise at night, so the room was nice and quiet. The queen size bed was quite comfortable and the pillows were just right (not too hard or too squishy). The air conditioning kept the room at a comfortable temperature. The television also had international channels included, which was great for us tourists! The breakfast buffet (included after check in during the stay) was top notch and included a wide variety of hot and cold dishes, even some local Cretian cuisine! The lobby was clean and spacious, as were the restrooms and changing rooms downstairs. We only stayed one night, but I wish we could have stayed longer! Staff: I cannot say enough how amazing and thoughtful the staff are here! The reception desk was staffed 24/7, so there was always someone available if we had a question (in English or Greek). We arrived at the hotel super early in the morning (we took an overnight ferry from Piraeus) and couldn't check in until 2 pm (the previous night was fully booked when I made the reservation, so I knew we would need to wait for quite a while until our room was ready), but the man at the front desk immediately offered to hold our bags and offered us tea and coffee in the lounge/bar area. We were also welcome to use the lobby and the restrooms/changing rooms/showers downstairs, even before we were checked in. This was incredibly useful, as there were not many public toilets available nearby. After checking out, we were planning on using a nearby luggage storage place to store our bags, but the front desk staff graciously offered to hold our bags for the remainder of our time in town that day! This allowed us to spend the rest of the day exploring without having to worry about our luggage, which we greatly appreciated! Overall, I would highly recommend Samaria Hotel if you're staying in Chania! I definitely got my money's worth while staying here!
