We had an excellent stay at Corfu Holiday Palace. The location of the hotel was very nice, the views as well, food was ok, restaurant staff was overwhelming. Receptionists were very kind, very helpful. We would like to especially thank Konstantina from guest relations that booked us a trip to the city center and pointed out the best spots for us! This was our first trip to Corfu and were looking to stay for rest and relaxation. The hotel is 10 minutes transfer from the airport so fantastic to get to when you’re tired after a flight, however you of course do have to accept that you will hear and see aeroplanes day and night. When we pulled up the hotel we were immediately greeted by the very lovely porter. I never got his name but he was so cheerful, friendly and helpful throughout our stay, it really made a difference to be welcomed so warmly. Check in: Check in left a lot to be desired, it’s probably the most tedious and outdated check in experience I’ve had travelling to date. It was very transactional, rather than welcoming. The majority of hotels I’ve stayed at are prepared for expected guests with room keys and information, just requiring a name, passport and a credit card preauthorisation - however we had to present the hotel voucher, fill in a form, wait for cards to be made up and were also asked to write down our credit card details on a piece of paper for any incidentals - which was a no from myself and other guests checking in at the same time. We therefore had to pay €200 deposit instead, which we weren’t given a receipt for - so just be aware of what’s required. We did get the deposit back on check out but had to ask for it. We weren’t given any useful information such as food location, restaurant times, pool towel info etc. The room wasn’t ready and we were promised we’d be called when the room was ready, which didn’t happen. It was therefore poor, took a long time and didn’t create a good first impression. Room: Once we did get into our room, we were impressed with the room we were given - we had a semi private garden with a view of the sea at the end, a huge room and a bath —although the shower is just a hand held. Lots of room and really comfy beds. The rooms do need a bit of TLC and modernising to bring them up to 5* - such as the need for many more electrical sockets! We had to choose between light (room only has lamps) and charging our phones on a night - you would struggling to charge a laptop and work on an evening if you were staying on business. From the room you can hear planes taking off and landing but honestly you get used to it. The worst thing I could hear from my room that disturbed my sleep was what I think was a generator nearby. Food: The most outstanding food I’ve had from a buffet restaurant. Great choices, really hardworking, friendly, restaurant staff, people coming from the kitchen to check over the food regularly. Piping hot and freshly cooked station. The desserts were just WOW! I had to stop myself binging on them 😅😂! Only minor issue is food is inconsistently labelled and doesn’t have allergen labels. There was a good choice of alternative milks at breakfast and I saw a gluten free area. Water is not free with dinner but is with breakfast. Spa: We had spa treatments whilst staying which were wonderful. Location: This is a small village which gets busy with cruise ship tourists - notably on a Saturday lunch time going to mouse island. The restaurants and bars around are few but what’s there are wonderful. We tried them all and favoured the sky bar for lunch and evening drinks. The bus to Corfu town stops immediately outside the hotel - get your bus ticket from the mini market across the road. In summary: We had the most relaxing, restful stay. Yes there is room for improvement with certain aspects of the hotel and I’ve been honest with those areas in this review, but I would happily return to this gorgeous part of the world and this lovely hotel.

“Stunning location but no way 5 star.”

The hotel is in a perfect location plus boasting its own beach accessed by a lift. Unfortunately the 5 star rating is something fitting to the 80's. The lifts kept breaking every day (even being caught in them in the dark) until they managed to prize them apart. The lift to the beach kept breaking and a long hard walk was needed up and down. Ok if you're fit but a little of older people were struggling. The half board option which we took was so disappointing. The food is basic with very little choice. Some dishes looked nice but when tasted it was dry and cold. The puddings were nice but most cream based. Our room was very nice but the bathroom is very dated, shower is tricky to operate as so stiff. The TV is does work and having spoken to a lot of people - none of theirs did either!!!! Bed is very good though. There was a need to keep the door open due to a musty smell. I understand maintenance has to be done but it's non stop every day. Drilling sounds all the time! Staff on the whole were incredible. Dining room and pool staff are just wonderful. Reception is incredibly rude. Asked a question about pick up and was basically shood away with his hand and a frown and told to wait! Morning doorman came up to me as I put my head down as I was feeling faint and loudly said - no sleeping, get up!! How about - is everything ok and do you need any help!! If you don't like the sound of planes coming in loudly next to the hotel - definitely choose another hotel.

“Lack of financial investment is obvious in poor variety of food and facilities not finished or closed.”

This was my tenth visit to this hotel. The choice of food at dinner has declined far below its 5 star rating. La Veranda, beach bar & snack bar were closed for our first week and the beach is like a building site. All the staff are FABULOUS and I can’t speak highly enough of them, but a lack of investment seems obvious and undermines their hard work. I shall return, however, and hope an injection of money from the top will facilitate the much-needed improvement to the choice of food and ensure that all facilities are open from the first day of the season.
