“Hard to beat in Santo Domingo!”

Best Marriott family hotel seen to date in Dominican Republic. Food, gym, pool well above average. Special thanks to Ana Santés the friendliest and most attentive of hosts at the Elite member lounge. Did I mention the view of the ocean?!! Wow!!

Great location and excellent customer service in all areas. Clean room and hotel facilities. The lounge access and the spacious room made our stay very comfortable and all employees were always friendly and attentive. Very nice bar and restaurant area and they offer a varied buffet breakfast. I highly recommend Sheraton Santo Domingo as they really care about their guests.

“Dated but excellent service”

Room is spacious and clean and has the expected amenities, but looks 20 years out of date, bathroom also - still has a very old fashioned shower-over-bath. It all needs a refresh and refurb. Room is spacious and clean and has the expected amenities, but looks 20 years out of date, bathroom also - still has a very old fashioned shower-over-bath. It all needs a refresh and refurb. Lobby was nicely decorated for Christmas. Lobby bar/restaurant is a nice relaxing place for a drink and dinner. Breakfast buffet is as to be expected, there is a good selection of items. Good leisure facilities - outdoor pool and spa and the gym is quite well-equipped for a hotel gym. Located right on the Malecon, safe for a walk (if you can get across the crazy busy road!), and not far to the colonial zone. Overall this is a dated hotel, they really need to refurb the rooms, but the staff are excellent - friendly, helpful and efficient.

We stayed for a week (Europeans) using Sheraton points at this hotel. The lobby area is beautiful with a lovely bar, and a great pool and gym on the second floor. I felt the rooms were tired (we stayed in 504, standard king) and while the room was clean it just felt a little sparse. No spare toiletries other than a bar of soap, only one thin towel per person (I need one for my hair as a woman). The cleaning staff happily gave extras when asked but it’s nice to not have to go find them, particularly when you arrive late evening. It felt odd to se the luxury brand Gilcrest & Soakes shampoo in bottles bolted to the wall but no other toiletries, no shower cap, nothing. As a European guest I was also aware of how expensive things were in the hotel. One night we were out the front looking to get a taxi, so the hotel called us one. I only had limited cash (our bank cards didn’t work in the cash machines here) so I luckily asked the driver how much to the colonial zone. He told me 600DOP and I nearly choked - every taxi we had got previously, whether street cab or Uber had been between 140-190DOP. I asked the hotel employee why we were being charged so much and he shrugged and said it was their standard rate. Sure the cars are nice, and if you’re from the USA it’s still cheap, but it’s awful price gouging. If they’d said it was 300DOP I would probably have said “ok”, but to charge guests more than x3 the fare just isn’t on. This is how I felt about other factors at the hotel. We asked for two coffees at the hotel bar one morning and were charged 700DOP once the taxes had been added. That’s nearly 12USD/11 EUR for two small coffees, incredibly expensive. We’re told repeatedly that things are expensive in DR but they’re not, they’re expensive in that hotels and restaurants here charge higher prices, plus tax, then ask for additional tips. Every drink or food item you pay 18+10% tax, then are asked to add a minimum 10% tip, so add 38% to every item. It’s something for (non US) guests to be aware of. If you go to small stands and local bars you don’t have to pay these prices Overall - the hotel was absolutely fine, just not amazing. The staff were very helpful and polite and really made the stay enjoyable.
