Had a spectacular visit and can’t thank enough the wonderful staff! The resort is absolutely amazing and the Castle is the place to stay! It’s 100% worth the upgrade. Pizza at Sanctuary town and the short rib at the steakhouse was a highlight. The Italian restaurant (reservation required) and sushi place were great as well. Blue Marlin Steakhouse has a great view but I’d pass on the food. The buffet restaurant is the best option for breakfast. Lastly, our butler Joan was the BEST!!!! Please request him if you can. He helped us navigate the resort, made reservations and was instrumental in making our vacation a rememberable one.

“Excellent, adults only, relaxing resort.”

Excellent property, great service. Upgrade to the castle when you check in to get butler service (Joan was exceptional), beautiful rooms, honeymoon suite had privacy, pool and beautiful views. The team at the hotel were incredibly accommodating and kind.

If you are reading this, you are either booked or thinking about booking the Sanctuary Cap Cana Resort. Like you, I read almost every review for this property for months leading up to our trip. I can only provide an open and honest review of what we encountered from November 7th - 14th. Booking: I booked directly through the resort for an Oceanfront Junior Suite located in the Castle. Arrival and Rooms: We used DAT Transportation to and from the airport with no issues. Prompt and professional service. We were taken directly to the Castle for check-in. I want to state this now so I do not have to repeat it several times during this review. From the moment we arrived to the moment we departed, EVERY SINGLE EMPLOYEE I encountered was helpful, pleasant and willing to help or answer any question you may have. Attention to detail in service is on point. JT, a butler in the castle brought us to our room. Our butler Jeremiah, did not arrive at work until 3pm. JT and I exchanged numbers for WhatsApp and I was contacted almost immediately by Jeremiah. Our original room (1046) did not match the description of what I booked. It was on the ground floor with a king bed, but did not have a living area as advertised. Jeremiah was able to speak with the concierge and we were moved the next day after more rooms opened up. Room (2051) was located on the second floor and overlooked the ocean with a balcony. The room was clean, well appointed and decorated. It was just as the picture showed. After 2 nights, a significant amount of rain had fallen causing the drywall ceiling on the balcony to come down on the two lounge chairs. I took pictures and sent them to Jeremiah who arranged a 3rd room for us. We were moved to (2056) which was just as nice. The food and drinks were great. Breakfast and lunch at Casa Bella (buffet) were great. Lots of options. Dinner at the Italian restaurant was very good with a bit more leveled up service. A wine list was offered but never pushed. All of our wait staff at every dining spot were great. Personal and professional and always with a smile. A special shout out to Jeremiah our butler who was available when needed, checked in often, but never intrusive. He made dinner reservations for us prior to arrival without being asked. He filled our floats with air and even set up the room one night with champagne, balloons, tea light candles and rose petals for our anniversary. I read a lot of negative reviews and really could not find anything that matched up. We did have a few days with limited sun and some rain. It was a bit of a struggle to find things to do during the rain other than day drink. Not the resorts fault though. I would return again. It was exactly as advertised. A luxury resort for relaxation, great pools and drinks, and the beach was small but nice as well. If you want the all night party and foam party in the pool, try Margaritaville next door.

We came to Sanctuary with high expectations after reading so many glowing reviews on Trip Advisor, and seeing a few YouTube videos about the resort. Sadly, our experience didn’t live up to the hype. The food here is very hit and miss and not near as good as what we’ve become accustomed to in our travels (especially lunch). We were served cold food on several occasions and the buffet food was always lukewarm at best (stick to the hot stations where they make it fresh). There are definitely food safety issues at this resort and I’d not recommend it based on that alone. Both my wife and I came down with an intestinal bug by the end of our trip that’s not been fun. Service was below average at the beach and pool, but the restaurants and spa we did have a positive experience. Most of the staff we found friendly and helpful. Check in was fine, but no welcome drink and it felt a bit underwhelming. We stayed in a ungraded ocean front king suite that was just ok; nothing impressive about it at all (slightly above my average Marriott hotel room for work trips-shower/hot tub). Overall it’s lacks entertainment/activity options compared to other resorts (day and night) but we did enjoy the magic show one evening and the pool side aerobics guy was fun. Housekeeping was excellent and kept us stocked up. While the resort is really beautiful and very unique, the previously mentioned negative items ensure that we won’t be back. I’ve been a Marriott rewards member for over 30 years and this property just needs some work to achieve what could be.
