Butler service was superb. In particular, Antonio was a 15 out of 10 in every category. His attention and consideration went above and beyond. The resort layout and design was excellent. Amenities excellent. Staff excellent. For Caribbean resorts the food and restaurants were top notch. Guest services could improve and be both more forthcoming with info, less concerned with protocol and more logistically customer focused.

Let’s start off with the resort was nice, food was good and the beach was amazing. We traveled with a total of 48 guest including ourselves for our wedding. Our Butler Antonio Castillo was amazing! And a lifesaver. We do not know what we would have done without him. He went above and beyond for us. He fixed all the mistakes and errors our wedding coordinator made because she could not do her job properly. Antonio made sure we had everything both my husband and I needed on our wedding days. He made our vacation great besides all the little issues we had during our wedding week. Our wedding Coordinator Marielyn De La Rosa was horrible. If you get her please change to a different onsite wedding coordinator. You would think after all the money we are spending for our wedding all the guest we are bringing with us and the name of Royalton itself that they would have more experienced and professional wedding coordinators. From not following our contract that was signed and paid for, to arguing with us on our wedding night that she could not turn on the string lights that we had to pay for and get for our reception location, to harassing us to give her a review during our wedding reception. And all the other screw ups she was horrible. We got so frustrated with her that we just asked Antonio if it was ok if we talked to him instead of her. We could not deal with her anymore. The Dj was not even mixing songs We had suggested some songs we would want to hear throughout the night but instead of mixing etc he just played off the list in order . Anyways besides all the wedding stuff Our guest had a really hard time booking Al La cartes. There was never anything available on the app and guests were paying people at the restaurants just so they could get a reservation. We have been to other Royalton resorts because they hold their name But this was definitely not what we would have expected from a Royalton. It really sucked as it was our wedding week but if it wasn’t for Antonio stepping in and making sure of everything and doing other peoples jobs that are not even his!!! We don’t know what we would have done. Last but not least we did love the hunters steakhouse and el dorado.

Five years ago, my husband and I stayed at the Hideaway at Royalton Punta Cana. We had such a wonderful time, we said we would like to return at some point. Recently we returned, this time with our son and DIL. We chose to upgrade to Diamond Club on the Punta Cana side of the resort. Unfortunately, I don’t think we’ll be returning again. I’ll start with the good: The rooms were as we remembered, large and spacious, and always kept tidy by housekeeping staff. The beds and pillows were comfortable, and we always got a good night’s sleep. The mini fridge was re-stocked daily, and there was a selection of snacks and a bottle of wine and champagne to enjoy during our stay. The restaurants served a good variety of menu items, and for the most part, the food was excellent. Our favourite was Grazie, followed by Hunter, Under the Sea, Zen, and Jade. We are not buffet fans, but the one night we ate there, the food was fresh and good. The Diamond Club beach bar served great cocktails, and there was beach service to your lounger. They also offered a lunch menu with many delicious options. You could have the food delivered to your palapa, or you could dine at the tables close to the bar. We loved the Martini Bar for before dinner drinks, or after dinner cocktails. The upstairs lobby bar also had delicious drinks. The DC lounge, in our opinion, was uncomfortable and unwelcoming. It seemed cold and sterile in comparison to the atmosphere at the other bars. Now for the bad: Our check in process was over an hour in length. We were not offered a cool drink while we waited. We were told to download the app while we waited, but we needed wifi to download the app, and we needed a room number to get the wifi. It was a Catch 22. Once we were finally able to download the app, we found it awkward to use, and often wrong. Opening and closing hours of restaurants were missing, and it was difficult to find a schedule saying which restaurants were open on which night. This is basic info that should be easy to find, along with activity and entertainment info. The rooms were supposed to be supplied with robes and slippers. Ours did not have them. The safe in the room is located inside the closet on a shelf very low to the ground. As seniors, we found getting up and down to use the safe very uncomfortable. It should be placed at about chest level to avoid getting down on the floor. Also, the safe in our room was not attached to the shelf at all. If somebody decided to walk off with the safe, there would be nothing to stop them. The buffet is extremely noisy, with sound bouncing off the ceiling and echoing around the room. The only way we could enjoy the buffet was to be seated on the outdoor patio, where the noise was at a comfortable level. Zen (teppanyaki) was also extremely noisy, with the cooking show at various stages for the different cooking stations at the room. While dining at Jade, service was extremely slow, and they lost electricity half way through our meal. We had enjoyed it a few times on our last visit, but this time it was not good. Grazie restaurant used to be open at lunch time for a smaller buffet experience. Unfortunately, it was not open for lunch at all anymore. Hunter was supposed to be open for A la Carte breakfasts for DC members, but it wasn’t. We tried 3 times to go there, only to find it not open, despite the app saying it was. We are not ones for resort shows, but we do enjoy light after-dinner entertainment. On our last visit, they had singers and saxophone players entertaining people in the Royalton Plaza. This time, other than on Dominican Independence Day, there was no entertainment there at all, and 3 evenings out of our 6, the square was blocked off for wedding receptions. We were very disappointed. When we stayed at Hideaway 5 years ago, reservations were not required for dinner, and you were seated first come, first served. Now that reservations are mandatory, an app is required to see restaurant schedules and table availability. Unfortunately, the app did not function as required, and we were unable to use it. We would have preferred to make our own reservations, but the app would not allow us to. It was like we were blocked out of the reservation system, and we had to rely on our butler to make the reservations for us. We gave him a list of our preferred restaurants and dining time when we first met him. Unfortunately, our butler, Ozuna, was not proactive in reaching out to us, and we had to contact him daily to find out where we would be dining, and at what time. He often responded that he was “working on it”, and we rarely heard back until we contacted him again. As a person who likes to be organized and prepared, waiting to be contacted by Ozuna was very stress inducing to me. If an app isn’t working as it is supposed to, the solution of a butler should not be as frustrating as it was. Also, as Diamond Club we were entitled to one bottle of alcohol per room, and we had to keep asking for it to be delivered to us. We arrived on Sunday (and chose which bottle we wanted), but didn’t get the bottle delivered until Wednesday. It took several messages to Ozuna to finally receive what we had asked for. All in all, we had a good vacation, but the non functioning app and butler service completely turned us off from ever returning to this resort. We won’t be back.
