WARNING, DO NOT USE YOUR CREDIT CARD AT THE GIFT SHOP! my card was compromised, the minute I landed back home. Good thing my bank notifies me ASAP, and blocked my card. If the tap doesn't … more

I stayed at the Riu Palace Bavaro for two nights after spending five nights at the Royalton Bavaro across the street. Here’s my honest take: Check-In The check-in process was slow and frustrating. My reservation had to be canceled and rebooked for some reason, which delayed the process significantly. While they honored the original price, I ended up losing out on foreign exchange fees when the refund came through. Not entirely their fault, but a PSA: double-check your reservation and maybe call your bank ahead of time. Service The service here didn’t match the Royalton. I requested towels multiple times, and one staff member at the front desk said they’d come at 8 AM, but they never did. The entertainment was decent, but overall, the staff responsiveness was lacking compared to my Royalton experience. Food I didn’t try much, but I loved the ice cream shop and café. The two food courts were a standout feature—great concept and very convenient. I also appreciated the clear food labeling, including nutritional facts and allergens, which was a thoughtful touch. Facilities The hotel itself is stunning, with a grand and luxurious feel. The facilities were top-notch and well-maintained. However, I didn’t love the layout—it felt like a maze and was harder to navigate compared to other resorts I’ve stayed at. Vibe The vibe at the Royalton was much better in my opinion. The beach here is nice but a bit steep, which made it slightly less enjoyable compared to the Royalton’s beach. Overall Both resorts are great, but the Riu Palace Bavaro stands out more for families due to its amazing facilities. That said, the service could use improvement, and I personally preferred the vibe and beach at the Royalton.
