I'm an American from Ohio who made my fourth visit to Sosua in 6 months to visit my girlfriend. She and I stayed at the Piergiorgio Palace Hotel for two nights on May 24-25th 2023. If you're an American comparing any hotel in Sosua to any hotel in America, that is not fair. You simply won't find luxury. This was the fourth hotel I've stayed at in Sosua and I will only compare it to them. This hotel appears to be very old. I've seen different dates online that suggest this hotel is about 25 years old. I would of thought at least double that age if not possibly more than triple that age. It's vintage appearance is what gives it character and charm. By FAR, this hotel of the four I have stayed at in Sosua, has a WOW factor. From the appearance of the front of the hotel to the huge open lobby and spiral staircase that goes I believe 3 stories to the pretty pool area to the absolute breath taking view from the outdoor restaurant and observation area nearby and from the outside of the ocean side rooms. The first night we stayed in an ocean side room. The room had a grandma's house feel to it. Sadly we only stayed in that room one night as whoever stayed on the third floor above us had an overflowing toilet that leaked down into our bathroom resulting in an unbearable odor. From the sounds of it, that wasn't the first time that room experienced that. The shower and bathroom were nice and big in that room. When we moved we were moved to a room on the second floor of the inside area. This particular room had a balcony and a nice view over looking the pool area with the ocean view in the far background. This bathroom was not as large but did have a bidet that the first room did not. I preferred the longer walk to the first room than the stair climb of the second room. The view from the first room couldn't be beat so too bad we were unable to stay there. The free breakfast was about equal to the other three hotels I've stayed at in Sosua. However, the pizza at the Piergiorgio Palace hotel was by far the best pizza I've had in all of the Dominican Republic. Nice wood fired pizza that I would actually purchase in America. I will try another hotel my next stay, but I will definitely be back for the pizza. Although I felt safe, it had minimal security and is located at a dead end of a long dark quiet street. Everything to enjoy in Sosua is within walking distance, but a little further than the other hotels. We walked the dim lit street on the way back and again felt safe. However, I wouldn't want my lady to make that walk alone. Although I did witness bushes being trimmed during our stay and the pool grounds is beautiful, this hotel is a bit warn down as an abandoned pool table sits out in the elements, a second swimming pool looks to have been out of order for over a decade, the lights climbing the large staircase didn't work at night, and years of wear and tear and neglect make it unsafe for children and drunken idiots who want to mess around out near the ledge looking down into the ocean. As long as you're responsible and careful near the ledges you will be fine. In conclusion, I'm giving this place 5 stars which is what I gave the other three hotels. I would happily stay here again. If you're looking for a unique place to stay that has the absolute best view you will find in all of Sosua as well as the best pizza, a nice swimming pool and is also the most quiet place you will find in this city. Then please give Piergiorgio Palace hotel a try.
