“Minor issues but very good overall”

Greetings, i stayed there for 2 weeks, from the 7th of may until the 21st, i can't really say anything wrong about the place, the last time i was at PlayaBachata it was still called the Riu Merengue at the time and well, the resort has aged... But overall, i recommend it and here's why: First, I can manage to speak enough spanish to hold a conversation with all the employees there so it helps a lot to increase their kindness when you interact with them. When i got there, i was greeted by an old friend, Margarita (Margot for her friends), and the check-in was made within 5 minutes. She arranged with another friend of mine, Gabriela, to gave me one of the best room they could think of and they did, i was in room 1038 and everything in this room was perfect. I was at the Senator in september and december of last year, both rooms i had were great but i can say without any hesitation that the 1038 of PlayaBachata was even better than that. So what Margot and Gabriela did for me is above great customer service it's genuine friendship. Also, on my first morning there, i met with another good friend of mine, Maria, she warmly greeted me and she told me to let her know if there was something, that she would help me. Maria, muchas gracias mi amiga but i didn't need any help since everything went well! As i was saying earlier, my room was great, hot water and water pressure went well at all time, the room was quiet and located very close to the snack and lobby, Evelyn, the maid, was very friendly, dedicated and meticulous while working, actually, i could see that in this part of the hotel, all the maids seem to be very close to eachother so the work atmosphere seems to be exemplary. Speaking of maids, i wouldn't want to forget to greet 2 of them maids who made my stay there above average, i'm talking about Estherlin (the wife of a good friend of mine who works at the Senator) and Zulaika, ladies, you will never have to prove your kindness to me again! Some few things i didn't enjoy that much though was that during my first weekend there, from the 10th to the 12th, close to 900 locals came to the hotel and they mostly got there very early, friday the 10th at noon, the place was already full. Since i know the dominican culture better than most tourists, some came to me complaining that they were pushed by dominicans while waiting in line at the buffet, i mean some locals had a plate in their hands and were literally pushing the person in front of them thinking things would go faster... One good idea would be that the old Riu Mambo part should be open during the weekends when they are expecting over a certain amount of locals, of course they have the right to be there but they should have a specific part of the hotel reserved exclusively for them to avoid friction with tourists who can be convinced that returning there will never be an option again. Also, the usual good mood of the employees disappears (and i don't blame them at all) with all the work they have to do during these weekends. Also, a rubber trail would be very useful between La Plaza Bar and the covered section from the buffet to the lobby, not only many tiles are broken but when they get wet, they are dangerously slippery. Speaking of La Plaza Bar, great drinking spot, most of the time i was talking to the same 3 bartenders, Santiago, Jose Luis and Oscarlina but all of them, without any exception, are friendly. Cheers too to the animation team, i've known Chiquimonkey, Spaghetti and Chocolate since the first time i went there, i have been in over 20 different resorts in Puerto Plata since 2006 and this team is by far the best and friendliest animation team i've encountered. I also had the pleasure to meet Kick Buttoski, Madonna, Mariposa and Tinkerbell. As for the buffet/restaurant, i was always sitting in Ramon's section, again, one great guy, i was seeing me coming in, i was always picking the same table and even before i could sit, my drink was there, how can one ask for better service than that! Greetings to Nibelka too, every morning/lunch she was our host at the entrance with her lovely smile. Food was good but for an almost vegetarian like me, i have to admit i didn't eat that much meat but i can say that vegetables and salads over there are excellent. To conclude, i will go back, no doubt about it, whether it will be at the PlayaBachata or Senator, this resort complex is my favorite spot in Dominican Republic and the staff is a major reason why. Thanks to all of you, i enjoy your company and i already miss it!

This is the second time that we have gone to PlayaBachata. The reason we went is because my daughter wanted a resort with a kid's club but unfortunately the kids club at this resort was not up to much as many parents don't take their kids to the club. And all the kids love the kids pool. And is very safe - the kids can play in the kids pool and the adults can go in the adult pool which is adjacent to it. The food was very good in the buffet. And the thing about this resort is that there is an ice parlour, pizza place and a coffee shop which is all included in the price of the all inclusive and it is really good and everyone just loves these stores. The resort is not very big and it is quite easy maneuvering from one place to another. And the bonus is the beach is simply GORGEOUS. It was a nice vacation. Big shout out to Kick - entertainment staff as he is really trying with the people. And I'm guessing he is new as well.

We had been to this resort 5 years ago. It has really changed, The beach has all washed away. The tree we sat beside five years ago was now showing all of its roots and sticking out of the sand so much. We were disappointed. The food was good but very repetative. The same food every day. The drinks were good! We enjoyed being there but the changes were very surprising. We had a couple of great waiters at the buffet! Ramon had a table ready every morning and at noon for us! At the evening meal Lettie (sp?) was amaizing! She decorated out table every evening and was right there to help when we wanted anything.
