“Everything was great!”

I stayed at the Club Amigo Playa Ancon in September for a week and in July for a week. I enjoyed both my visits and will return in early January. “Great even without power !”

I happened to be here during Cuba's 3 day huge blackout and let me tell you that the hotel wasn't affected by that at all. The room I had was on the top (third) floor in the section that is to the left of the lobby and I think it is the only part that is open now. The room had a great ocean view and everything worked fine in the room. I requested this room and was given it on both trips.(Thank you Dainery). I had good, but basic, food at every meal and there was no shortage of anything that I needed. If your a foodie, you might want to spend a little more and try somewhere else, as the choices at this hotel are on par with hotels in this price range. For the price I paid going solo it was a great deal and there were no power failures. There was a severe Thunderstorm that came through and the power stayed on, but a fair amount of damage to structures along the beach. All the staff that I encountered were friendly and gave good service. I prefer the older hotels in Cuba as I feel they have a lot more character, mature plants and are often in the best location...a chipped tile here, some paint peeling there does not bother me. There is not a beach bar that is included with the price, but the pool bar is very close to the beach with some nice shady spots close by if you just want to look over the sea without going on the beach. The lobby is very nice and large, with 2 levels, and plenty of places to sit with padded comfortable seats. There are places along the beach to have a meal and drinks that are local and paid in cash (possibly credit card). The hop on hop off bus was $5 USD per person round trip and most of the time you could only pay with a credit card. I bring USD and exchange on the street for Cuban pesos in Trinidad. This part of Cuba has the sea, the mountains and the historical town of Trinidad all within a short distance. For me this hotel and the Memories next door are more than enough for my liking.
