We usually post review after every trip which we update as we remember lol We returned last Thursday : Blau Varadero I’m not sure where to start, we travel to Cuba 2 to 3 times per year and our expectations aren’t high. Like most, we expect warm weather, great beaches, something cold to drink, awesome people and something to eat so we won’t starve. Did Blau meet our expectations, your damn right did, it met them and blew them out of the park We got in late, around 11:30PM and the bus ride took about 25 to 30 minutes . Checkin was a breeze. The counter staff were awesome and we were off to our room, ready to enjoy our new adventure in next to no time. Our first stop was the 24 hour snack bar for a couple of gin and soda and we watched a few people dance, obviously having a good time and then we made our way back the main structure. We entered an extremely clean, comfortable, garden view room, which basically allows you to look out Over the little moat in front of the resort. Room 212, I believe you need floor 7 for ocean The next morning we started our little routine, which was heading over to coffee corner, which was staff by two amazing ladies and one pretty cool dude and I started off with a latte and an espresso, which again was amazing and Kara got a latte as well. We were off to a great start We then found one of our little nooks, which is actually that little island of seating out in front of the lobby bar, and we sat in the sunshine. We Enjoyed the view, enjoyed our coffees and then we headed to the room to get changed for the beach. 🏝️ Let me tell you and it’s been a while since I’ve been to Varadero and now I remember why I fell in love with the island. you can walk a half hour ( at least) each way, passing multiple resorts, with White sand under your feet and amazing clear blue water beside you There are lots of Palapas , the beach bar is awesome and the lady staffing it, make some amazing drinks with a menu that is updated daily. There were no shortages at this bar and after a couple of beach drinks, we made our way back up to the poolside lunch buffet. 👣 I have to stress if you’re used to buffets at home these are not it, but if you’re willing to wait a few minutes for meat to grill, you will not be disappointed. I had some of the best chicken and beef I’ve ever had in Cuba at this resort. And the pool clean, clean, clean with lots of chairs lots of space and a moderate level of music playing that was sometimes live but mostly DJ Also, there’s this cool little part in between the beach and the pool, which is basically loungers down in the shaded area, which I found awesome . Great place to relax read a book and enjoy some shade or torture your significant other Personal note: This resort is funny. It looks huge, but it’s small, it seems busy, but it’s quiet. I know it doesn’t make any sense but this resort is anything and everything you want it to be. If you want dancing, go to the disco bar at the 24 hour bar at night, if you want quiet go sit and listen from the lobby bar to the entertainment or find your own nook of which there are many. Speaking of the lobby bar, hands-down, the best bartenders in Cuba and yes, we tip them well, in American one dollar bills and Canadian five dollar bills and we never Waited, even with lineups and they had everything at this bar…….there were zero shortages And then on Wednesday night, I believe they had Canada night and they had a whole spread for us up in the piano bar, which again was them going above and beyond to show their appreciation for Canadian tourist who frequent the resort 🇨🇦 I honestly don’t have one complaint and nothing but appreciation and accolades for this resort . We are looking up booking again in October and I will name everybody once I make sure I don’t butcher their names, but you will not go wrong staying here. Between the two of us, we have been to the island almost 20 times in this by far was our best resort and best adventure yet 😃 * this was voice to text so I will edit at some point 😬

“A week in Blau paradise”

⚠️ WARNING: Very long review!😅⤵️ Just came back from 7 days at Blau Varadero paradise!☀️ I have travelled to Cuba 24 times..Yes, 24! And I have to say that this was in my TOP vacations! Coming back from this trip, we could hear soooo many people at the airport complaining about their resort and the shortages of food, wine, bread, eggs...Others were complaining about the rocky beach and the lack of cleanliness of their room! All which confirmed that making the decision to book my stay at Blau was THE BEST decision everrr! I am used to travelling to huge resorts because I don't like to get bored. I have to say this resort was not big nor small. It was just right! And, I did not get bored! Animation:🎊 The animation team worked so hard at keeping us entertained throughout the day, evening and night! There was always some activity going on! When I travel to the south, I like to hear latin music playing and really feel emerged in the cuban culture. This rarely happens as most hotels play american music. Well, guess what? Blau had the most amazing cuban band playing by the pool during lunch time. It was magical! ✨️ Thursday is cuban day!!!🇨🇺 Wow! It was my favourite day! They served a cuban buffet outdoors by the pool. There was dancers dancing the orishas and explaining each one of them. Sharing some cuban culture knowledge!👌 The animation team always makes you feel welcome to dance and participate with them. I had the chance to dance rueda, salsa, bachata, merengue! It was amazing! On thursday evening, the cuban party continues in the lobby! What a vibe that is!!💯 Beach:🌊 The beach was simply gorgeous! White sand and clean turquoise water! Unfortunately the strong waves and wind only allowed us to bathe 4 days out of 7. The water was refreshing but a little cooler than I'm used to. We even got to witness the most beautiful wedding! Zenia Hernández Mera and the staff did an amazing job at making this moment extra special for the bride and groom! And, guess who caught the bouquet💐????? Yes! Me!!!😅 Rooms: It took 2 days for us to get the oceanview room we had payed for. We got room 618 and the view was magnificent! The beds and pillows were comfortable! The rooms were so clean. The decor was modern. And, our room was cleaned daily! Nightlife:🌃 This resort has a 24h snack bar by the beach that becomes a club at 11pm. The DJ is great! People are really there to let loose, dance and have fun. I went dancing solo most nights and never felt awkward. I met some awesome people and danced until 2am. Some nights we stayed there and continued talking untill 4-5 am. Some of the entertainment staff also show up and make sure we have a great time! You can also take a cab into town and go dance at Beatles, la casa de la musica or snack bar calle 62! Food: 🥘 Food was great! The main buffet was a little smaller than I'm used too but, there was always something yo eat. My mom adored the lamb. I have never seen lamb at others resorts! There's also the 24h snack bar that serves salads, burgers and fries at lunch time and the most delicious egg sandwiches anytime. There's also ham and cheese and chicken sandwiches available. My favourite was the lunch buffet by the pool wich also turns into the international buffet in the evening! There are 2 à la carte restaurants: international and italian. I personally prefered going to the buffet. There was always red, white and rose wine available and beer also. The service everywhere was top notch! 💯 The waiters are so fast and attentive to your needs! I will leave you with some pictures! If you have ANY questions, please ask away! P.S: If you are debating about booking the Blau for your next vacation, just DO IT! It's truly worth every penny. I would go back in a heart beat!❤️

This resort and our overall experience in Cuba was wooooonderful! The staff were friendly and incredibly helpful with any questions we had. There was always something to do/going on at the resort! The entertainment programmers get a huge shout out for the diversity of shows they provided while we were there. And the food… the food was excellent! We definitely never went hungry. The upgrades were definitely worth it and allowed you to enjoy our stay that much more. Book the upgrades with your original reservation because you save a lot more than trying to upgrade later on. You can book many excursions while at the resort also. The Blau is a beautifully designed resort that is unique and so picturesque. I have recommended this resort to many family and friends since our stay and if/when I go back to Cuba, I will be sure to keep this resort in mind! Thank you for a wonderful trip to Cuba!!!

Blau Veradaro March 2nd to March 9th Our 4th time at this hotel. The last time we were here was 2013. We were given a room upgrade on the 6th floor as returning guests. The bed was comfortable, and the room was spacious. There were both 220 and one 110 electrical outlets. There was some wear and tear on some of the cushions on the chairs, but nothing significant. The mini fridge had 2 cans of beer and a few bottles of water in it, which were restocked each day. We chose “Bay View” which is the side looking over the hotel entrance and towards the road. We like that side, there is morning sun and afternoon shade on the balcony, and you cannot hear the activities from the pool side. The Hotel and grounds are still very attractive and well kept. The staff are all very nice and welcoming. Although we were not drinking hard liquor, the brands stocked were recognizable brands. There were soft drinks and some non-alcoholic drinks also available. I would recommend you bring a thermos mug/cup to reduce the waste generated by the flimsy plastic glasses they use at the pool and beach bars. We were always able to find chaise lounges around the pool or on the beach. There was the occasional mosquito in the evenings so bring insect repellent in you want to be insured of not getting a bite. I didn’t get any bites, my partner got a few. The food was plentiful and there were lots to choose from on the buffets. Some things were absent but considering the hardships the Cuban people experience with shortages, this is to be expected. Breakfast buffet included cereal, breads and baked goods including croissants, smoothies, (sometimes there were less selections of fruit than other times), salads, hot vegetable items, eggs and an omelette station. There were sausages some days, but not bacon. Coffee was served at the table, and there is a coffee shop open 7am to 5pm everyday where you can get a variety of coffees. There was yogurt and milk, although I suspect some of the milk was made from powdered milk, it was quite suitable. Some days there would be items on the buffet and then the next day they would be gone. Items like peanut butter, prunes etc. nothing significant. The lunch buffets were plentiful and there was always fresh fish, (sometimes very boney) and pork cutlets made on the grill. There was also a pasta bar at lunch. French fries were only available at the beach bar where hamburgers could be had as well. The staff rotate between roles, and someone should let the cook at the beach bar know that one cannot empty 2 large bags of frozen fries into a deep frier and expect them to cook evenly or in less that 15 to 20 minutes, as I witnessed one day. The next day there was a different cook who understood how deep frying worked. The wine served at meals was good, coming mostly from Spain or South Africa. The a la cart restaurants were both nice and the food was nicely presented. The service was excellent, the wines were very nice. The customer representatives on the duty desk where you request your a la cart restaurant reservations are very nice and accommodating. We asked for and received some extra a la cart vouchers, as we preferred the a la cart restaurants over the buffets. There is lots of music and activities during the day. We tried out rifle target practice, and although they were older air guns, it was fun. Thanks to Larzarus for letting me take a few extra shots! There was also archery practice at the firing range, and games and activities at the pool. Personally, we didn’t like so much music at the pool, so we moved to the beach where there is no music but the sound of the surf. And the beach is beautiful with clear water and white sand. The entertainment mostly consisted of musical presentations and dance shows. The shows were over at 11pm and even though the lobby bar was open late, the hotel was quiet after that. We went into Varadero one day by bus, but there is really very little to see or do. There are some bars and restaurants there as well. We would recommend this destination for a relaxing holiday, of good value. A final note. On the bus ride back to the airport the host thanked us as Canadians for our assistance. Just visiting Cuba helps the whole island and is a major source of income for the country. We were thanked as a country for our help and assistance by Canadian corporations who help in their oil and gas industry without exploiting them or taking all the profits offshore. We were told how all the Cuban rum is aged in Canadian 10-year-old barrels, and only Canadian barrels, and we were told how all the food grade paste used in the manufacturing of the cigars comes exclusively from Canada. It made us feel proud, and hopefully more Canadians will support the Cuban people buy choosing Cuba as a holiday destination.
