Now there are 2 hotels together and I was in the villas blue diamond guest ( whatever that was) . I have been to Cuba many times and brought someone who was their first time. This hotel made me look like I knew nothing of Cuba as I told stories of 3 legged beds and you can get rum or sometimes a cup but not both and how great for diet as I can literally lose 8 lbs in 1 week in Cuba. None of this happened on this trip. When I first went for breakfast at sit down restaurant I was served fruit and asked choice of eggs which came with bacon toast and jam????? I never saw jam in Cuba before and had brought 2 jars of my own. For lunches I could usually have a choice of about 3 dishes which changed between chicken leg, fish, pork, and I was always able to get my favorite which is the chicken breast. We had soup and salad also wonderful presentation of these. On some nights lamb was also served and we had desserts of rice pudding, chocolate mousse ( which just tasted like coffee and chocolate ice cream that had ice crystals and not creamy. We also had a bottle of mustard and ketchup brought to our table the night we arrived and went to snack bar ( I had brought my own bottles because I had never received a bottle of ketchup in Cuba and mustard is usually a small dot on your plate like some exotic sauce if you can get it. So I have no complaints about the food even though desserts not good I never expected these or to get much of any food in Cuba. I still had my 3 bags of chips in my suitcase that I usually eat the first days in Cuba and I gave away my 2 bottles of jam and jar of peanut butter unopened. The only item I ate from my large stash of food I brought was Nutella I put on my toast. My room. was comfortable and my bed had 4 legs and the lights had light bulbs. I had a great time at hotel and was full each day and I am a very picky eater. I did not eat the cut fruits or salads as I am cautious of these in the islands and I do not eat cut fruits or uncooked vegetables anywhere in Caribbean but my friend with a strong stomach did and enjoyed these. For me some simple bananas without the tops cut so they are completely sealed would be a good addition. So food was 5 stars and presentation gorgeous. They seem to treat the staff well as all looked truly happy and well fed and not miserable and skinny like at other resorts. It was important to me not to be enjoying lavish meals if the staff was starving. The only bad meal I actually had was the special dinner at the Atlantic side where I saw the 4 other tables that had been there had also gone over to the buffet afterwards to get food. The welcome pool side dinner was also spetacular At the Atlantic we sat in lobby and had special coffees each day and at 430 went to 4th floor when it opened to sit on open air patio and have Pina coladas. ( the bartender very nice older man who would be thrilled at anything Toronto Blue Jay's that you would bring as a tip , and you will wish you had brought him. The water sports were good with kayaks and paddles boats and free katamaram rides ( but fee if going out to snorkle) The worst part was check in. We had been transfered from other hotel 5 hours away because they had no power and after 4 hours to first hotel to be sent by sunwing 5 hours back past where we came the next day was exhausting. I do not hold them responsible for power outage but they had 5 hours to arrange a quick check in for us and seemed like the sunwing counter not prepared for a bus load of people at 11pm. There were other people in the office but they did NOTHING while one girl seemed to try to practice her English with small talk to each guest while she assigned rooms wrote paperwork and scanned passports and wrote room numbers on keys. I do not know who the other people were but you would think they could have scanned the passports or wrote the room numbers down to help speed things up, but they did nothing and this was the worst part about the hotel was just the inefficient Sunwing counter. They also did not have the different flavored liquors anywhere at either hotel but I think this is just a Cuban supply problem as I did not see these anywhere this trip. I do not know what the situation will be in the future when the 2 hotels split and there is no access to Atlantico but now in October it is a good bet. Best food, accommodation and staff ( with exception of sunwing office) I ever had in Cuba
