Was at MCSM last week of November 1st week of December. Great time had by all. No shortages except for people who were scared off by the Canadian Travel agents who were trying to up sell them to Mexico or the DR who now have danger advisement s attached to them. Melia hotels are top notch and have brought in supplies from Spain. You will not be disappointed by your stay there and it is a good bang for your buck. If you are thinking of visiting don't hesitate because you won't be disappointed.

Beautiful week . the staff was absolutely amazing . Best coffee I have ever had . Would definitely return . Great salsa lessons with Victor at hotel and on the beach . Giovanni helped our group the whole week with our tennis skills I would rate hotel more like a 4 stars than a 5 stars

“You need Cuba, and Cuba needs you!”

Have been to Cuba 9 times and stayed at different resorts around the island (and Cayo Largo). This was probably the best hotel overall. As everyone will mention the staff are amazing. From our Camarera Yesley(?) To Alfredo at the towel building to various and sundry bar and restaurant staff all were excellent. Our rooms were large, comfortable and spotless all the time. Perhaps a few signs of age, but that is just Cuba, chill. The food was quite good and we ran out of nothing, at least nothing important. We chose to eat breakfast at the snack bar as the produced great omelets and had some amazing toast. We ate most dinners at the a la carte restaurants and they were all good. The Japanese restaurant was fun and flavourful. The lobby bar was always a good place to grab a drink and play cards. The pool was always clean and we did hang out there a few days as the wind was up on the beach. The beach in front of the hotel ( and the nude beach 10 minutes to the left) were constantly being raked and there were plenty of chairs. For the first time we saw a number of sharks who stopped by to say hello. While everyone got out of the water it was clear they were not being aggressive. We were back in an hour later. One drag was the beach restaurant was closed during our visit, but sunwing did send a notice prior to our departure. Being two weeks before Christmas the hotel was not full at all. No line ups, no waits, etc. I would go again this time of year in a heartbeat. Finally I would like to encourage people to ignore the doom and gloom headlines about Cuba recently. There is no doubt that the cuban people are going through even more extreme challenges than usual, but this is exactly why you should go. You are providing jobs for families. You will be totally safe in Cayo Santa Maria and it seems you will have everything you need. Bring things to leave including clothes, toiletries, food, games, toys and $$$'s. The Cuban people need your support and if it is not something they need personally they will make sure everything finds a person who needs it. Buen viaje

Go! The weather, the beach, the staff ....all fabulous. Yes, there are some shortages but we still managed to gain weight. The bread when fresh, which was at most meals, and cheeses were excellent. Desserts have come up in the world. We even had paella, langoustines, calamari as well as fresh fish, chicken, beef, pork, eggs, salads, pastas, rice, root veg, beans etc, etc. They even had bowls of spices, pickles and olives so seriously hard to listen when others complain. The pizzas are some of the best (I like the super thin cripsy crust) and the hamburgers, although not beef, were super fresh and tasty. Then there is the cappuccinos! Sometimes no lettuce, no onions etc, whoopee. All those who complain about the food please tell me how much weight you lost! The people of Cuba are suffering and the government is trying to attract the tourists back to get the money they need to rebuild the country. The hotels were far from full but the maintenance and upkeep were pretty good and the gardens are lovely. We took a combo of American cash and essential items like toothbrushes, toothpaste, feminine napkins, ibuprofen, pens etc but only saw cash as tips from others. Not sure which is more appreciated since we are not Spanish speaking and basically are very quiet and keep to ourselves. We didn't have the best weather, but better than Toronto where we are from, and yes, you may hear about the sharks but still we will return. You heard right, I said sharks. They were large but not aggressive and the guards were very fast to blow whistles and get people out just in case. Been to Cuba 14 or 15 times and have never seen sharks so this is not usual.
