Lovely hotel. Location. Was good although based at top of hill but only short walk to resort centre and beaches. Lovely hotel. Location. Was good although based at top of hill but only short walk to resort centre and beaches. Hotel was large but 2 pools no issues getting a lounger/brolly ( although some were broke). Plenty of choice of food at night 3 restaurants need to book for mediatterian and oriental. Snacks through out day tended to be same but plenty avaiable. Good range of drinks including named brands. Hotel was clean always staff tiding up, and comfortable. I terconnecting rooms. staff friendly and helpful. Entertainment was varied something for everyone. And most importantly for 2 teenagers WiFi throughout the hotel!

Please note that this review is based on my feelings more than facts including the 4 stars I gave. I somehow liked the place, because of small things I appreciated but there were several issues, too. I didn't expect 5 stars after reading the reviews, so that part wasn't a surprise and it was still far better than the Umag Hotel a couple of kms away I also tried some years ago. It is close to the sea but the hotel' private beach is dangerous if you are not fit and can have stiff muscles. Where you enter into the water it is full with big rocks / stones and they are slippery. If the water has waves (often and big enough) due to that it is not deep enough to help you hold your balance, at the entrance you can loose your balance very easily. I don't understand why they don't remove those big stones from the entrance at least till a depth of 120-130 cms to walk in-out safely. The rest of the beach part, public beach at the right is quite the same, big stones in the water everywhere. However on the left there is another public beach which is sandy and nice, safe for kids, too. The bigger swimming pool is shallow, maybe 90 cms till half way or almost and crowded, the smaller - meant for children - no one used it, not even children, they were jumping, playing with ball in the bigger pool making almost impossible decent swimming. Because of it some of us cheated, we went to swim very early before the official opening time. I know that nowadays they put chemicals into the water but change it, it was a new smell but chlorine, I found it repulsive, like the smell of petrol or similar substance. The good thing - if you like to be around the pool - that they had plenty of comfortable beds and really very nice surroundings. My room was ok, in fact I found it nice despite it looked to the tennis courts because there was only 1-2 hours sun on the balcony at mornings but after that it was in shade and in that heat, I was grateful I could use the balcony all day. The aircon worked well, the bed was comfortable. There was no fuss about the fridge (as I experienced in another hotel, like I was not allowed to keep my own stuff in the fridge), it was empty. Hint: use the smallest pillow to put under the fridge' cabinet door to fix it in an opened position and the cooling will be ok after that. The food was awful, I am sorry, it was really awful. The smallest sunny-side eggs I ever seen and one member of the staff looked unhappy when I asked for two. During the first day of my arrival the bacon was not bacon but something ham like stuff with zero taste as if it wouldn't have been meat at all. However they had delicious juices, the beetroot one was excellent and there were a huge choice on fresh fruits, literally huge. If you are the type who enjoys sweet baked stuff for breakfast you probably will be very satisfied. I would have appreciated the normal (in every supermarket there) kefir offered to the breakfast, that is great, taste it if you can. The dinners... just please send the shef in a school or to an older local lady to learn how to cook, really. No taste, everything which was coated (breaded) stuff veggie or meat or else, tasted terrible. Cheapest choices on fish. If you ever ate a proper steak don't try theirs, the oldest cows ever, dried out. The first place in Croatia (and I was there at least 15 times in the past years) where they couldn't make a tasty cookie, all were tasteless and simply sweet. Only the different kind of stews was good and their national food made of pig' shank, don't miss that. However - as I am a fussy eater who enjoys street food - there was a good kebab shop just at the beginning of the shop-row. For look it was unappealing but the kebab was good and tasty. On this row there are many shops - everything you can want - and restaurants big ice-cream bar and at the end of it there is a big supermarket. You can go to Umag via the little mock-train, where you can find everything and the ride is a joy in that heat generating wind around you. The staff: there was a lovely gentleman, the handy-man who helped me with the safe (it was closed) and later with the fridge (I should have thought earlier to leave the cabinet door open), he was fast to come and just refreshingly normal. On the other hand there was a woman in the restaurant who was responsible for the table I sat several evenings and she was so frustrating and nosy, felt intrusive. I am a central European origin with a very similar face to theirs, she clearly wanted to smell out that who was I, looked sceptic when I choose to have my soft drink written on the room and last occasion she even checked my name (but only the room number) - considering the food quality and her - I chose stopping having my dinner there. The cleaning woman was lovely and most helpful, no fault with cleaning. The casino was a joke, I mean if you smoke only the casino has cigarettes (very limited choice but there is a tobacco shop not far) and they didn't sell lighters, if you wanted a lighter too, you had to buy some casino-money. The bar has delicious cookies. Despite of all these the hotel had a somehow lively, had bright atmosphere I also liked. If you travel nowadays be aware that you might can't wash the salty water from you at the beaches due to water bans (drought). To me it was a concern as during my stay I crossed the little forest to reach the sandy public beach and it was extremely dry. All together I somehow liked the atmosphere, apart from the issues I wrote about it was a nice place to stay and a relaxing enough, 'colourful' holiday.

“Chilled and relaxed - suitable for couples”

We visited for drinks as we were staying at a sister hotel nearby. The hotel is set within a pine forest, lovely nature, lots of shade. There was a big car park at the front. The hotel seemed very clean and had a calm atmosphere. Very little children (if any) around, it seemed more adults and maybe some older teen age kids. There was a casino in the lobby. We sat in the outside bar and they had a live music while guests played cards at their tables. Totally cool and chilled. The pools we saw by the bar looked very shallow so not sure if they might have bigger ones. There is a train that runs regularly and can take you to the other hotels within the Stela Maris Resort and also to Umag. The fair is 30kunas each way.

Location far from Umag, more than 2-3 km. . You can go to Umag via the little train. Beach average, and natural scenery a little bit disappointing, Good outside pool, however the water was a little bit cold. Good spa, with a swimming pool with sea water and two saunas. Good food, both breakfast and dinner, but not five star quality. Parking for 1 Euro/day, is a bit ridiculous. Nice amiable staff. It not a bad hotel, but its quality is not five star, maximum four. Expensive taking in consideration the quality of services.
