We had a great relaxed week and hope to return again later in the year . Our room had a beautiful view over Lapad bay and was very comfortable and clean . All the staff were polite and helpful and nothing was too much trouble . There was a good choice of food for breakfast and dinner in a restaurant with relaxed atmosphere. Bus stop close by ideal for getting in to Dubrovnik in about 15 mins and short walk to beach and cafes. A well run Hotel worth the four stars **** Tony & Nadine Emes

We have recently returned from a weeks holiday at the Hotel Uvala. The positives are most definitely the staff working there. All so friendly and obliging, and they work such long hours, last week in scorching heat too. Convenient for bus stop right outside hotel. 2 euros to Old Town. The hotel communal areas and bedrooms are very clean. Rooms are a reasonable size and comfortable, and bathrooms are very well equipped with toiletries provided. There is a kettle in the room and coffee sachets but no milk. However. There's a shop nearby where you can buy milk and keep it in the small fridge in the room, a godsend for keeping water, beers etc chilled. Air con was also very welcome last week as it was very hot. The previous review mentions the balconies on the rooms at the front of the hotel. We had requested a sea view room and indeed the views are lovely. They are strange balconies however. They are enclosed both sides by what look like concrete blocks. We had sun in a tiny corner of our balcony just before the sun set. Apart from that, there was no sun on the balcony at all. As there are limited numbers of sun loungers around the pool, this means there is nowhere else to sit out if you want sun. Breakfast provided plenty of choice with the option of sitting outside on a terrace area, which was lovely. We had not booked half board but did eat at the hotel twice in the evening, during our stay, and the choices at the buffet were varied. It's also only a short walk into Lapad for other restaurants and bars. The main issue for us was the height of the bath sides in order to use the shower. We had hoped for a level access shower. However, the shower is over a bath with the most ridiculously high sides, made worse by a track on the top for the sliding shower doors, which raise the height even more. On arrival I was horrified as a 5 ft 3 " person in my 60's to have to contemplate this. I tried to lift my leg over the bath side and couldn't. We went to reception to say it was impossible to access the shower and were told a step could be provided. Within 5 minutes a member of the housekeeping team arrived with a plastic stool for the bathroom. I was really unhappy about this as didn't feel it offered a safe option. After calls to Jet2 24 hour helpline etc., the local rep offered to speak to the hotel. We arrived on Saturday and by Monday we were offered a room swop to a room at the back of the hotel. The rooms apparently have showers but no views. After much consideration we declined as we didn't want to lose the sea view and as we were almost halfway through our holiday we could not bear the thought of packing everything up and moving. We were only there 7 days and felt the situation had impacted on the start of our break already as it was. I know hotel staff cannot take the blame for this. If anything the owners of the hotel need to address this. The bathrooms are a good size but there are so many comments on this site and comments from fellow guests regarding this issue. It clearly needs a long term safer solution. In my opinion no one should be expected to stand on a plastic stool to climb over a high sided bath to then take a shower. Therefore, despite the lovely staff, location etc. I would not stay here again because of the bathroom issues.

Stayed at the Uvala Hotel for 7 nights from 9th to 16th of June 2024 on half board basis booked by Jet2 Holidays. We had a sea view room on the 3rd floor. Cleanliness – the cleanliness of all public areas and the room was good. Staff – Reception staff were friendly and polite as were the dining room and housekeeping staff. Room – We had booked a sea view room. According to Jet2 the room had a bathroom containing a shower. We took this to indicate a separate shower as indeed the photos on the website indicated. This was not the case as it was a bath with a shower in it. The bath had sliding doors fastened to it contained in a runner system which had the effect of raising the height of the edge of the bath by some 9cms. Unless you had legs the length of a giraffe it was impossible to get into the bath. We pointed this out to the staff and they offered to provide us with a step to place in front of the bath to enable climbing into it. This was very dangerous if you tried to get into the bath without someone there to assist you. The beds were twin beds and comfortable. The air conditioning was adequate and quiet. There was a kettle in the room with packets of tea/coffee but no milk. There was a fridge which was a godsend as we could buy bottles of beer from a supermarket and put them in it instead of having to pay the “rip off” prices of the hotel. The balcony was of a good size but it was walled at both sides at the front giving a view of approx. size of 1.5 doors. The sea view rooms were all like this and none of them faced the sun. This meant that you do not get any sun on your room or balcony. The balcony was in my view inadequate. Dining Room – This was nicely furnished and decorated and there were tables outside if you wished to eat in the fresh air. At breakfast the only hot food that we chose were the eggs which were cooked well, the other hot options did not look at all appetising (the beans looked dreadful). There was a small choice of cereals and bread for toast. There was a small selection of fruit. For the evening meal the cooked food was hot and of good quality. The salad options were poor with only a choice of lettuce, tomato and cucumber. The sweets were good but the choice of cake was the same every night. The staff were pleasant but very slow. On a few nights we were halfway through our meal before we were approached and asked if we wanted to order drinks. The staff were also very slow at replenishing the food counter. The staff were also very slow at clearing tables and we had to keep putting plates etc on an empty table next to us. Drinks were very expensive and I consider it extortionate to be charged 6 Euros for a 750ml bottle of water. Pool area etc – small swimming pool with room for about 24 sunbeds for a 50 bedded hotel. There was not anywhere else that you were able to sit in the sun. The pool was cold but there was an indoor pool that was warm. Did not use the Spa/Wellness facilities. Outside – There is a road outside the hotel and the bus stops near to the hotel and goes to Dubrovnik Old City. It is a very good service and costs 2 Euros each way. At certain times of the day the road can be noisy. There was a manhole cover on the road outside that rattled loudly every time traffic went over it. The windows in the rooms do not block out the noise. Hotel summary – Nice small hotel but will not be returning. The 4 star rating is far too high, I would say 3 stars at most. Lapad itself is a small resort with nothing to do apart from a coastal walk which in parts is not very well signposted. It has some bars/restaurants but they are very pricey. There is nowhere to just buy a sandwich or a toastie as the only snacks they do are called “light lunches” for which you will pay 17 euros for a burger with trimmings. Drinks were also very expensive. There were 3 small supermarkets with limited choice. If you forget to bring anything with you and need to buy it in resort you will pay through the nose for it. The beach is small with no facilities whatever. What were probably bars/cafes were shut and the area looked neglected. Overall we enjoyed our stay but will not be returning to either this resort or hotel. 7 days at this resort were probably 5 too many. On a previous holiday we stayed at Cavtat which we found to be more enjoyable.
