“Beautiful Cloud Forest Hotel!”

We were very happy with our choice of Hotel Fonda Vela for our 4 night stay at Monteverde in November. The hotel is everything it says it is and more. The staff were outstanding in their customer service, consistently caring, kind and competent in taking care of all our needs. The grounds are beautiful, and include a lovely trail through the cloud forest, where we saw our first examples of local fauna (motmots, agoutis, coatis and more!). We didn’t have a car, and I was a bit concerned about getting around, due to it being a fair ways out of town. This was no problem, as there is reliable bus service and many taxis available in minutes. Also, some attractions (such as Curi Cancha Reserve) are walking distance. The restaurant is open for all meals and is very good, as is the Sports Bar on site. Special shoutouts to our fun restaurant waiters Freddy and David, and Medardo and Gerlin at reception, who really took good care of us! One final note on weather: it rained a lot (above average) during our visit. So make sure you’ve packed rain gear if you go in the “Green Season”!

Hidden gem in Monteverde! This hotel was absolutely stunning. The staff are extremely well trained and friendly. It appears to be newly renovated and they did a beautiful job. The food was delicious and the grounds are perfectly manicured. I’ve stayed in 4 star hotels in Monteverde in the past and this blew them out of the water. Not sure why it’s rated a 3 star hotel but it should definitely be bumped up to 4 star.

A beautiful setting in Monteverde with incredibly helpful staff and very high standard rooms. We are a family of 5 with 3 teenagers and the combination of easy access to the cloud forest, lovely pool area and spa facilities and bar / restaurant options that worked well for our family we would highly recommend this hotel. Our children left some of their belongings in their room 🤦♂️ and the hotel staff packed it up and posted it to our hotel in San Jose so we could collect before leaving for home - very much appreciated and amazing that they were happy to go to those lengths to return our items before we left Costa Rica. Thank you!

“Beautiful setting”
Beautiful setting but this is an older resort, most felt in the dining room and bar with their outdated decor. Giant room and shower. Friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast buffet is sub par. More fresh options needed. Did not try the spa or pool facilities.
