This place is not everyone’s cup of tea but it certainly was ours no frills at this place but we felt we were in the rainforest very organic down-to-earth friendly people great room no air-conditioning no glass windows but just a mesh felt like a local. Good food, good breakfast good towels, good bedding good sleepwell looked after gardens plenty of animals. Good breakfast would definitely return would strongly recommend it to friends felt like the outback/jungle at its best. Very noisy at night because of the animals. Very natural brilliant place if you’re into that that thing.

Our Collette Tour group stayed at the Evergreen Lodge during our visit to the Tortuguero National Park. While the safari tour on the water was a great wildlife viewing experience, the wildlife around the lodge was equally good. The howler monkey wakeup call was better than an alarm clock. Walking the grounds we saw poison dart frogs, a variety of birds and the ever-present capuchin monkeys which were always entertaining. I got some great video footage of their antics.

Part of a tour group (natural wonders of costa rica,not sure if I can say tour operatir name here but it starts with a G), this two night stay was as expected. I read most reviews ahead of time to prep: brought lots of DEET, microfibre face towel, benadryl or hydrocortisone cream,shower slippers, usb-charged mini fan, and an open mind. This is a very good "tourist" class lodge, not a luxe boutique. No AC anywhere, but with the ceiling fan, nightly breeze, and a portable hand fan, you can be comfy. Beds hit or miss. Ours felt like a waterbed, but we slept ok. Dont expect a firm mattress. Think of the effort involved in shipping over anything new! Inflation affects everyone including CR! Food is abundant. There is zero waste, and that is why portions are served to you (not self serve buffet style). Yes, you will see fruits, gallo pinto, chicken, beef, and fish repetition, but it is flavourful, fresh, tasty, and the staff serving you are very kind. Coffee is delicious. Drinks (non alcoholic) are very sweet, but you can water it down. Water from taps smell like copper and you will notice it when you shower. Dispensaries filled will 18L filtered bottled water are available. Ensure you bring your own refillable bottle! North Americans: MEC and REI sell the ones that are soft plastic with built in filters! Cleanliness: it is clean enough. Obviously if you look close enough you will see things, so stop doing that. You are not at an american hotel, there are different standards..The linens are clean, floors are swept. Bring citronella oil and spray in your room. Put a towel down where you see gaps bw door and floor to stop skeeters from entering. No snacks/vending machine on site. That is to prevent attracting bugs in your room. Only eat in designated areas. Yes, you can hear everything. Bring earplugs or noise cancelling headband to sleep and chill out. Suggestions for improvement: clean all pools more regularly. Super murky and cant see the drain clearly. If you cant see the drain, there's a big clue for you in deciding if you want to head in. Add mosquito nets for sleeping. Yes we kept doors closed but it is impossible to keep ALL out and i cannot wear deet 24/7. My O blood type is too tasty. Tourists in group tours or those buying packages: keep calm. Realize where you are and be respectful. It is not a party hostel, but a place to relax and enjoy nature. You will be well fed. Tip: go a bit early before start of meal times if you can if waiting in line for more than 5 mins gets you worked up. Speak the basics, a buenos dias, como esta, and gracias is just basic courtesy. Howler monkeys go off at 430am or 5am, mas o menos. Birds freestyle rap. Geckos scream for their love interests. Be kind to the staff, they are very kind to you. Pura Vida!

“Hot water in shower would have been nice but overall good stay in room 20”

We had a decent stay here with our room 20 being at the end of all the lodges so we had a lot of privacy. unfortunately our bathroom didn't have hot water in the bathroom so showers were cold for 2 days! Food was traditional Costa Rican fair, omelettes were excellent and staff were friendly and helpful in the restaurant. You will be awaken with the monkeys around 5am in the morning and at around 6pm at night when they are active and loud (plus dropping items onto you roof). It wasnt that bad as made out by some reviews and is all part of the experience of where you are staying. You dont need an alarm clock for your 6am trip! lol Everything is very close by and easily walkable so it doesn't matter where you room is nothing is more than a 5min walk max. We were warned by our travel agent that the hotels here can be rather regimented and in flexible and did find this on two occasions. We had used our room umbrellas in the morning and were told to leave at the hotel but on our return they had been taken away....they would give us another as they didnt have our room number on them! We are not big drinkers but couldn't get a 2nd cocktail in the bar at 8.45pm as they had closed up early and left 5mins later...despite closing time being 9pm. Couple of small niggles plus the water issue but overall a good stay and the people on the tours out were amazing and we saw plenty of wildlife etc.
